Anxiety and stress are often talked about as if they are always negative/pathological responses. Popular discourse would have us believe that stress is always a bad thing, that cortisol is evil and out to get you and that we must always be battling stress. News flash; it’s simply not true. Stress is part of responding to the world. It is healthy and should be expected. It’s a powerful priming mechanism, source of motivation and an important driver in your body. Stress and anxiety are not the enemy. The statement “I have anxiety is not a life sentence or a permanent state of mind. You don’t have to wear it as an identity. You have anxiety ? Of course you do! If you’re awake in this world most people do and that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. The negative/pathological part of this comes in when we don’t have the ability to identify unhealthy stressors and act. I’m not trying to diminish anyone’s experiences with anxiety or discomfort. I’m trying to normalize it. It’s treatable and there’s a ton you can do to bring the pendulum swinging back to an appropriate level. Don’t mistake being anxious with being anxious about being anxious. Don’t stress about stress. When the honeymoon is over science makes you feel all your fears. All our methods are imperfect! Findings don't replicate! How do we interpret our weird data? I have so many questions but I can only ask one? It takes months/years to process all these samples? I found something but the information is so niche even hipsters haven't heard of it? Is this really a meaningful step forward in understanding or curing a disease? Am I doing good work or just putzing around wasting time, resources, and literal lives? #science is a hot mess, frealz. I don't know if I ever recovered from my grad school mental crisis or if I ever will, but I will continue to persist because a) I need a paycheck and b) maybe, just maybe, there is a point to any of this after all.
There's a reason why I use the photo on the left a lot when I do side by side comparisons. I was at my heaviest weight, and in the deepest part of my Darkness. You never know how bad things are until you start crawling out. That was definitely me. I had no idea how bad it was until I started to heal my body and my soul. I don’t often get too personal on here, but did you know that this is the face of anxiety? And if you swipe you’ll see another face of anxiety. I have struggled with anxiety since I was 6 years old. That’s when I had my first panic attack. I had an amazing childhood, no trauma at home, but my chemical imbalance is just that... a normal chemical imbalance. Today at work I struggled so hard with my panic. It’s hard to explain something that people can’t see or rationalize. “Why are you panicking” no reason, it just is. What does it feel like? Nausea, dizziness, shortness of breath, impending doom, the need to run, shaking, can’t talk..... I basically just feel crazy. But I know I’m not alone in this. If you are going through this too, I see you, I understand, you’re not alone. You are so strong even when you feel so weak. I love you. Your struggle is building your character. Sin duda alguna la situación que estamos viviendo en el país nos trae sentimientos de miedo, ansiedad, preocupación e incertidumbre. Es la incertidumbre una de las emociones que considero más difíciles de manejar. El miedo al futuro, el temor a que sucederá próximamente es real. Porque si lo pensamos bien no tenemos una contestación para esta pregunta: ¿qué nos va a pasar como país? Aquí comparto unos consejos que pueden ayudarte a manejar la incertidumbre ante el futuro. 🔺Identifica la emoción, no intentes luchar contra ella, obsérvala, normalízala, no te enfades por sentirla. 🔺Identifica de dónde proviene la incertidumbre, la ansiedad, el miedo…. Indaga qué está pasando por tu cabeza y pregúntate dónde estás: ¿en el presente?, ¿en el pasado?, ¿en el futuro? 🔺No le dediques mucho tiempo de tus conversaciones al asunto que tanto te preocupa. Márcate un tiempo máximo para hablar sobre ello, sino corres el riesgo de que todas tus conversaciones giren en torno al mismo tema, y en consecuencia todos tus pensamientos. 🔺En esos momentos de pensamientos recurrentes de miedo, de ansiedad, cambia la mirada, cambia el sujeto de tu pensamiento y dirígelo hacia ti, pero hazlo pensando en lo que te gusta, lo que te apetece, tus placeres vitales, dedícate tiempo, cuídate, busca esos momento para tí. 🔺Practica la flexibilidad y la espontaneidad, la vida es puro movimiento, ponte a prueba y haz pequeños ejercicios de exposición, para romper tu necesidad de controlar las cosas: 🔺No pienses que te vas a poner hoy, coge lo primero del armario y sal. Vete al cine sin saber qué película vas a ver. 🔺Sal por la mañana de casa y ponte a pasear por tu ciudad y vete decidiendo en cada momento lo que quieres hacer, no vayas con horarios ni planificación.
