19 By Adele- 7.5/10
This album serves as a very good introduction to Adele. The album is something you can’t just experience from the hit singles, as every song for the most part is unique and a new experimentation of the capabilities of Adele’s voice, over mostly pianos but also some non-traditional production (i enjoyed those songs the most). Daydreamer is a very good start to the album, the first light being shone down on Adele, talking about her dreams of love, which remain a theme through the album. Best For Last I didn’t enjoy, as the instrumentals lead up to the chorus each time for a climax then reset again, which wasn’t appealing. Chasing Pavements has remained a wonderful song for quite a while, the loud layered chorus always refreshing. The next three songs were solid 6/10s, each sounding very similar with piano melodies and love stories. None of them really appealed to me but they were decently enjoyable. From First Love to the end of the album, every song is unique and trying out a new instrument of some sort, it’s like a B side to the album (EDIT: after writing this I realized it actually was a B side to the album, good job self). Some songs are very energized, some solemn and bold like the final track. My personal favorite track from this part is Tired, the soft instrumental and Adele’s thoughts on being tired of searching for this man’s love are a good closing to this album’s love story, and a good lead in to Hometown, another great song. My favorite tracks over the entire album are Daydreamer, First Love, Tired, and Hometown Glory.
NOTE: We will be doing more hip hop reviews soon. There is a jazz album someone requested coming up, but also the new Dreamville album and others.
