Yes, it is the same thing. No, you're rationalizing doesn't make it ok. #recovery #addiction #sobriety
I think happiness is the crux of what we’re all chasing. ⁣ What we’re all looking to find in life. ⁣ ⁣ Checking under the metaphorical rugs and behind closed doors of wherever we are at any given time. Trying to decipher if it’s a real state of being or simply the stuff of legend. ⁣ ⁣ Happiness is that ethereal thing we’re not always sure will be sustainable. ⁣ But it’s also beautiful. ⁣ ⁣ Happiness is dangerous. Cynically speaking, it’s easy to shield your eyes against it, knowing if you let it blind you, you’ll be unequipped for it slipping from your fingers.⁣ Hobbled in senses by the sheer power of feeling intrinsically fulfilled. ⁣ ⁣ Being happy feels different for everyone. Some let it wash over them and project it from within to others. A glow and a carefree demeanor that in turn, can make others happy. Some squirrel it away, hoarding the feelings within them in an effort to study and identify exactly how it feels and if it can continue to be replicated. Some tell everyone who will listen and others keep it to themselves in hopes that it won’t slip through their fingers. And yet others find a middle ground of sitting with it, feeling it, convincing themselves it’s okay to have and eventually letting others in on how they’re feeling. ⁣ ⁣ Having someone tell you they’re happy when they’re with you when you’re fearing expressing the same can render you speechless. It can make you question how deep you’re willing to go in regard to your own claim to happiness. Pushing against the fear. Understanding that happiness ebbs and flows, but there’s excitement in embracing it. ⁣ ⁣ I’m rambling, yet again. Trying to understand that I may be one of the ones who squirrels away my happy, quietly, so I can understand what it is and if it can be kept as mine.⁣ I’m my own worst enemy in embracing it, so perhaps that’s the moral of this ramble. ⁣ I want to be an ally to my happiness even if it’s scary. ⁣ ⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ #happiness #thoughts #rambles #sober #sobriety #soberlife #soberaf #soberliving #sobriety #soberwomen #selflove #selfacceptance #happy #sobermom #teetotaler #odaat #recovery #recovering #recover #words #writer #writing #soberwriter #tellyourstory
The struggle is real. The journey is long. But when we put our lives in God's hands we find our way. Wake today and ask for the strength to carry on. You got this. You can do this. I have a friend who needs to hear this right now. And maybe some of you do too. Extreme, unpredictable highs and lows aren’t “passion”, they’re the cycle of abuse. Sobriety often means finally leaving behind the toxic people you’ve been escaping with substances. So hard. So worth it. 💔 #sober #soberlife #sobriety #soberissexy #soberaf #trauma #toxicpeople #toxicrelationships #toxic #soberqueer #queer #ftm #trans #transman #transandsober #queerandsober

This #quote means so much to me. For me, addiction is a character trait. I say trait instead of flaw because it's shaped my entire life and continues to do so every day. I have an addictive personality. That means that anything that can be overused/abused I most likely will take it to the extreme. Food, alcohol, mood altering substances, sugar.. I'm unable to regulate. Everything is a battle. So I've built a heirachy to what are the most harmful, and I work on those at all times. I can't control all of my addictions at once. So I work on them accordingly. Food and alcohol were my biggest. 12 years #sobriety from alcohol has always been my #1 . But make no mistake, #2 is FOOD and realistically, that's the the hardest. Because you cannot "quit" eating. Abstinence becomes easier, but regulating is a constant battle. Food, sugar is my weakness. I've fallen off that wagon more times than I care to admit. But I wake up everyday and start new. I never beat myself up anymore for #cheats , I simply pick myself back up and start over. The #ketocommunity has been an enormous aid in staying on track. Even when I feel guilty, I look at everyone's stories on #instagram and I realize I am never alone. And that, for me, is the key to success. So this post is for anyone struggling with #addiction ... Know that if you actively seek help, you will always have support. Someone, somewhere Is going through the same exact issues. Don't ever be afraid to ask for help or seek it out. No matter what your battles are, if nothing else, I'm always here to lend a hand. We all are teachers who can impart wisdom and life lessons to someone new to the #struggle . I hope this helps and I hope you know you're worth every moment you put into making your life better. ❤️ . . . #keto #foodaddict #sober #onedayatatime #life #living #health #betterliving #instamood #eat #fitness #beyourownboss #behappy #beautiful #strength
Meth is a brutal hijacker. It takes control of your brain, mercilessly robbing you of the ability to find pleasure in anything other than the drug itself. To learn more about how this terrible drug works please visit our website. // // #TheDunes #Rehab #EastHampton #Sobriety #Inspiration #Recovery
I remember rolling my eyes at all the 12 step meetings about gratitude in early sobriety. Even as someone who was well versed in the benefits of gratitude and positive thinking, sobriety felt different, like maybe it was too hard for gratitude to work. Lysa TerKeurst got it right here. It’s a choice. With repetition, the choice becomes a habit. And then gratitude eventually becomes your instinct. It happens without you realizing it. And that’s usually when you stop and look back, wondering “when did this all get easier?” 🌈 We tend to want to know everything about this process before we start. We want to measure the results in live time, tracking changes as we go. But the best changes happen without us keeping tabs on them. They quietly embed themselves in our perspectives and that gentle shift happens without a loud announcement. Suddenly you’re just THERE. 🌈 Gratitude is a choice. You make the choice and trust in the process. Sometimes you won’t see results immediately, but get used to it, because this whole sobriety thing can be uncomfortable. Trust that the change is coming and that peace is on its way too. Choose to look for it and gratitude will be the natural byproduct. #gratitude #itscalledgratitudeandthatsright #lysaterkeurst #positivethinking #perspectiveiseverything #sober #sobriety #soberlife #soberandgrateful #recoveryhappyhour
Often times it is the small things that we cannot handle and can potentially lead to relapse. This is generally due to not having a solid foundation in #sobriety . - - - The ol’ say, “Don’t sweat the small stuff” 🥵 is so true. ⭐Many substance abusers also struggle with a co-occurring mental health disorder. This is known as a dual diagnosis and will require specialized treatment. Dual diagnosis is a common term that you’ll often hear in the addiction industry. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), dual diagnosis, also known as a co-occurring disorder, is used to describe a situation when an individual struggles with both a mental illness and an addiction. Each condition can happen independently from one another, and any condition can develop first. A mental health disorder can lead to a substance use disorder (SUD), and a SUD can exacerbate a mental health disorder. Either condition can worsen the other. It’s vital that rehab centers can diagnose a #co -occurring disorder. Alcohol and drug treatment centers must treat both #diseases in order for the individual to fully recover. If only the addiction is treated, the patient may still struggle with neurochemical fluctuations and other issues that may lead them to relapse. Are you struggling with an addiction to alcohol or drugs? Do you suspect that you may also struggle with a mental health disorder at the same time? Or, have you already been diagnosed with a mental illness? Do you feel that your addiction is worsened by a mental health disorder, like #schizophrenia or #anxiety disorder? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you’re going to need dual diagnosis treatment. Here, at The Freedom Center, we have just what you need to get healthy. We offer addiction treatment for comorbid illnesses. Our dual diagnosis treatment plans include both medications and #behavioral therapies. They’re incredibly effective. . . 🏃 Physical activity triggers a biological cascade of occurrences that results in many physical and mental health benefits. Research suggests that exercise is an effective treatment for mental health issues such as depression, and can serve as a fundamental component to one’s recovery from addiction. . . . 🏃 Most people are aware that exercise can produce “feel good” chemicals in the brain called endorphins. What some don’t know is that exercise, especially low-intensity exercise sustained over time, helps nerve cells grow and make new connections, subsequently improving brain functioning and helping individuals to feel better. . . . Recovery related health benefits of physical activity include, but are not limited to: . . ✔️Relieving stress. . ✔️Producing endorphins for a natural high. . ✔️Helping to manage anger and frustration. . ✔️Promoting restful sleep. . ✔️Filling up idle time. . ✔️Providing structure and discipline. . ✔️Expanding social circle. . ✔️Helping to cope with mental health issues. . ✔️Increasing self-esteem. . ✔️Improving overall physical health and the damage done to the body through one’s addiction. . . . . #fitness #fitfam #healthylifestyle #recovery #addictionrecovery #soberlife #sober #sobriety #mentalhealth #wellness #cardio #weightlifting
