A blessed MOON-day, beloveds. A gratitude musing as I am looking back at my time serving at the KRI Immersions, under the leadership of an amazing woman - Aquarian Teacher, Mentoring Lead Trainer and sensory human Sat Siri Rachel Dougherty. In 2017, I was invited to help evaluate trainees' teaching practicum. That was my first taste of KRI Immersion. Since then, I have participated in three more KRI Immersions, in Bali and in Española, New Mexico. With that, I completed my tenth participation in KRI Level 1 training programs. Our teacher Yogi Bhajan was a Saturn teacher and it was the perfect gift for the time and space, when many were learning about existing as spiritual beings and about spirituality. In the Aquarian Age, and with Aquarian Teachers, we learn differently. Being vulnerable is a strength so we all softened up our hearts in order to be more compassionate to others and to ourselves. And, we allowed the tears to flow freely and being witnessed openly. Mistakes were necessary lessons. They are learning opportunities. A deeply healing and educational experiences simultaneously. I am deeply grateful, inspired and empowered. 🙏 To accept our own shadow aspects and have the process witnessed compassionately; and to see our own magnificence being reflected back with clarity by everyone in the team is such a great blessing. Perhaps there was a time, and even a merit, about learning from contrast. But with this "A team", the KRI Immersion team, that is no longer necessary. Everyday was an opportunity to exercise mutual respect and understanding. Avant garde? Mais oui! Thank you, Sat Siri and KRI, for another opportunity to serve this sacred teachings of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan, and future teachers. Wahe Guru! 📷 Courtesy of Sat Siri. Muddy Feet Yoga class of 2019! These incredible people finished up their 200 hour Yoga Teacher Certification today. Every other weekend for the last 3 months, they put their lives on hold to do something with purpose! They worked their asses off during this session and I seriously could not be more proud to know them. How BRAVE, DEDICATED, and BADASS do you have to be to be able to look your life painfully in the eye and say "I will be the change." * * * This group bonded right away. Day 1, and they were besties. They held each other up, stayed free of judgement, laughed and cried (ummm, daily) together, and grew together. They knocked it out of the park this year and I'm humbled by what they've accomplished. * * * Look out for these teachers, folks. They are GOING to change the world! * * * (Steeve was there in spirit for the photo. We just couldn't leave him out of it. 😂) #muddyfeetyoga #200hours #ytt #yogabootcamp #hardcoreselfcare #yogaeverydamnday #yogisofinstagram #yogateachertraining

It’s official! I’m an instructor at Hot or Not Yoga Massage! I finished my teacher training on April 7 and earned the RYT title. The 200 hour program is only part of the process. An important part! But still only part. I did 3 student-teaching sessions with an amazing instructor and I am now good to go! I thought graduation was a relief but nothing was quite as satisfying as reaching this point. I have a renewed love for my practice and truly enjoy coming to my mat in the studio again. In all honestly, during training, I started to avoid practicing. In a way, drifting away from my practice and coming back has made me a better teacher. I am able to be honest with myself and avoid letting my ego drive my decisions. While we never stop training, I can’t wait to start this phase of my journey as a teacher and student. I am taking another step closer to my dream of teaching yoga to first responders and families. Come see me for a class sometime! . . . #yoga #yogateacher #yogi #yogini #ytt #studioyoga #757yogis #alwaysastudent #yogateachertraining #newteacher #newyogateacher #yogaislife #yogaeverywhere #astangayoga #eightlimbs #asana #beyondasana #asanaswithashley #yogawithcops #firstresponders #leo #leow #leowife #blueline #bluelinefamily #gradstudent #projectmanager #girlboss #followyourpassion

Beyond the shapes and anatomical principles of this incredibly intricate science. Comes the art of letting go. . Here in lies the elixir of this practice, the magic behind the shapes we make on our mats and the muscles we contract and lengthen. Beneath the healthy compression of bones, and the increased proprioception... Comes the subtler science of working with our nervous system to create a healthier state of homeostasis in the body. . Coming back to the ability to control the breath and stimulate the relaxation response in our bodies. Stimulating the Vegas Nerve through deep diaphragmatic breaths, and coaxing the body to move out of the Sympathetic (Fight or Flight) nervous system, and into the Parasympathetic Nervous System. . So beyond correcting alignment and learning to manipulate and move the physical body. We are in the business of teaching people how to relax. . To re-establish their relationship with stress. Of providing an hour or more for them to focus simply on this moving meditation. . It takes at least three minutes of relaxation to prompt the relaxation response. . And even when most of us are going to sleep, we are not falling asleep because we are relaxed. We are passing out because we are exhausted. . Teaching yoga, is bring back our ability to calm the nervous system. To help heal the body. To aid in the management of anxiety and autoimmune disorders. To reconnect with the present. . 📷 @anjolieyoga and @melpretorius at our Sydney 200hr Yoga Teacher Training with @sona_yoga . . . **Today’s Meditation Challenge** Spend at least three minutes stimulating the relaxation response by breathing deeply into the base of your belly, allowing it to expand out and wide for a count of four, and then drawing the navel back towards your spine as you exhale, a full diaphragmatic breath. If comfortable here, play with extending the length of the exhale to double that of the inhale to a count of eight. . . . . . . . . . . . . #yoga #ytt #yogateachertraining #yogabenefits #asana #yogaanatomy #yogaclass #yogaschool #yogakoh #kohmmunity #bali #relaxation #mindfulness #scienceofyoga
I so commonly hear, see and have conversations with yogis who graduated a 200 hour yoga teacher training, or are currently in training nearing the end of it, with a very common theme. . The theme is that they don’t feel ready to teach, don’t believe they can, or don’t even understand how to. . And honestly, this breaks my heart! I know how this feels firsthand as I left my first 200 hr program 7 years ago not feeling like I gained practical teaching skills and ended up quitting teaching yoga for 3 years because I believed I could not teach. . Every single person I have talked to about this is BEYOND capable of becoming an incredible yoga teacher. We all have a unique message to share with the world. It’s sad to hear they believe it’s ‘them’, and not realize that they just may not have gained the teaching tools, skills, practice and confidence to step into the teaching role and shine. . This is the exact reason why I am soooo passionate about working with teachers in my 200 hr @livininflowyoga training and with teachers through my mentorships. . My mission is to help you step into the role of sharing yoga (if you choose) confidently and authentically. And I promise you, I will offer you everything I know to guide you into this role, and be sure you understand how to. . Early bird rates end June 18th for the September 200 hr YTT! Things I learned in Module 2 w our teacher Jonny Kest: . Human connection isn’t an option in this lifetime, it is the only way. We all want/need real life connection more than ever these days, even when we’ve convinced ourselves otherwise. . Never judge or assume. A stranger is a stranger until you know their story and then they’ll never be a stranger again. . Growth doesn’t happen when we are comfortable. It happens when we step into fear and allow ourselves to move through the discomfort. . Fear feels so very real, yet goes away instantly once we face it. We can convince ourselves of all the negative outcomes when in reality, we don’t have a clue what’s on the other side. I was so dang terrified to do a cold plunge. We got in the freezing cold waters of a Michigan lake on a cloudy day and stayed in for 10+ min. It was one of my favorite parts of this module and I would do it again today. The fear vanished the moment I was freezing my butt off w everyone. . Support from peers is irreplaceable. Having a community that is willing to give you both positive and constructive feedback is invaluable. . Women are powerful and badass and inspiring (especially when joined together). . It was brought to my attention that I don’t like to make other people uncomfortable so I tend to hide parts of myself. I’m actively working to be ok with stepping outside of my comfort zone and learning to recognize that others’ perception of me isn’t what matters most. . I know now more than ever that everything in my life has led me to where I am now. It all makes sense. The good and the bad. It all has purpose. . September can’t come soon enough💛 . Ps...our long days are filled w lots of practice, meditation, lectures, and activities. I just didn’t manage to document any of that🤷‍♀️😂
This was little me, today two years ago. The day that I graduated from Yoga School. The course that taught me so much more than I initially realised that I needed to learn. Yoga... That which taught me immense discipline... and later taught me to be much more gentle with myself. That which offered me a way of being and existing in the world that I could language, return to, shift and adapt within. That which introduced me to the world of spirituality. That which had me finally dip my toes into the business world. And so much more. I remember being told, not long before I graduated, that the point of ending my final training would only be the instigator of this new level of growth. And it is true. For all that I have come to recognise within myself, others and the world since this time has been forever life altering. Possibly my greatest learning, and I say this just after I have taught my last Asana (physical practice) class for some time, is that Yoga is life. It is a way of life and a way of existing in the world. Movement is one (very important) eighth of this. It forms one piece of my own philosophy of existing. And for anything that alters us on all levels, must come the recognition that it takes time for this learning to filter in. The integration is just as important as the actual practice itself. And this is where the ripple affects begin to take place. I am eternally thankful for this stepping into this space and for allowing this learning to take hold of me. And for each ebb, flow and space in between, I am forever a much more well rounded human who is endlessly deepening and rounding out those curves. Namaste to that 🙏🧘🏼‍♀️💖🌱xx

𝐘𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐬 & 𝐍𝐢𝐲𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐬 | 𝐊𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐚 & 𝐋𝐢𝐥𝐚 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The yamas and niyamas are the pragmatic principles and “rules” that were created to guide people’s actions given the karmic, or cause-and-effect, nature of the world. In that karmic world we need human decency and accountability. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But karma isn’t the whole picture. Its opposite is known as lila. Lila encompasses divine play, vulnerability, ambiguity, and the fact that anything can happen. As humans we are vulnerable to what the world dishes out, and the future is uncertain and unpredictable. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The yamas and niyamas are important and straightforward, and yet they don’t quite account for a world that is also “lilic.” In one moment your life could be calm, and in the next breath it could change forever if a family member is hit by a car, your spouse gets laid off, or your health takes a turn for the worse. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Don’t get me wrong — the yamas and niyamas are essential, and I wouldn’t want to live in the world without them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Yet it’s important to recognize that they originated as part of an ascetical paradigm meant to encourage seekers to move away from the world of social contracts. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We can do this by recognizing that we live in a world that is both karmic (predictable) and lilic (unpredictable). To put it plainly, having modern ethics means getting your “ducks in a row” or getting your act together. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It means creating basic stability in your life so that when lila happens you can receive the play of the universe rather than getting run over by it. Being prepared for any possibility means that you can create opportunities out of challenges rather than being a victim to them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -- The Art and Business of Teaching Yoga: The Yoga Professional’s Guide to a Fulfilling Career, by Amy Ippoliti and Taro Smith, PhD ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For the full article, check out the link in our bio 👆🏽
