Today dive into women in history guided by Panashe Chigumadzi's new book 'These Bones Will Rise Again' we looked into erasure, music spirituality and central role of African women/Zimbabwean women in the struggle for independence, the phallocentric exclusionary state, taping into family and unwritten history. Her book reminded me that we have to be more imaginative to build a more inclusive Africa. After years of following each other online I got to meet Panashe in Kampala at #Writivism2019 in a powerful conversation with Jackie Asiimwe ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿ™Œ๐ŸฟโœŠ๐Ÿฟ #AfricanWomanLead #AfricanwomenAuthors #AfricanFeminism ๐Ÿ“ท Nicholas Opiyo
A lot of Caribbean countries are celebrating independence this month and it makes me so happy. Perfect timing for my Queenie review. My gosh, I had so many feelings with this book, but I'm glad that I stuck through to the end of Queenie's story. I can't believe I'm so blessed to have friends who get me the latest book by my favourite author, and get it autographed too? Thank you @taygeya . After suffering through the pandering that was Born A Crime, I was happy to read something that doesn't care where I'm from; it boldly asserts itself as authentically cultural and asks that you keep up. Jennifer Makumbi has quite literally done it again with this collection of short stories that detail the lives of Ugandans in various stages of living in Manchester. The prose is quick and peppered with Luganda, Swahili, and God knows what else. I'm happy to not understand all the phrases. . (Photo features birthday flowers from @bibliotap and my Beatles calendar because we watched Yesterday on my birthday.) . . #bookstagram #bookstagramafrica #bookshelf #bookrecommendations #africanauthors #bookclub #bibliophile #blackwomenauthors #blackauthors #womenauthors #africanwomenauthors #africanauthors #bookaddict #jennifermakumbi #manchesterhappened
Day 3 Summer Reads | #12daysofdiversespines . . Itโ€™s winter in Australia right now, but what I do like to read in summer is something light, yet still gripping and meaty enough for me to get lost in it. For me, a good #chimamandangoziadichie fiction is it. Itโ€™s good on a beach. Itโ€™s good on a picnic. On a plane. On a road trip. Just kick back and enjoy a good story from a master storyteller.
โ€œWith a fantasy world rich in history and power struggles, Children of Blood and Bone is the epic Iโ€™ve been waiting forโ€-Author Marie Lu โœŠ๐ŸฟโœŠ๐ŸฟโœŠ๐ŸฟโœŠ๐Ÿฟ/5..More like 4.1 fist pumps 4.1 because I hated the crap out of Inan and Zelโ€™s so called relationship. It was too rushed and felt forced. If there was a build up to it, I wouldve been here for it.Iโ€™m actually glad Tomi offed him lol.Iโ€™m actually here for the possibility of Roen and Zel being together. Anyways, I enjoyed this novel.A first time author and at her young age, Tomi did exceptional work with this one.The Orisha folklore pulled me in but I stayed for the well paced writing, action scenes and overall display of the Yoruba culture. This type of display of African culture, African perspective, and African heritage is the kind of content I need to see in novels. This new generation of African authors are killing it. Overall, Tomiโ€™s writing lulls you in.The action scenes are well-developed and the incorporation of Yoruba and Orishas made me stay.Be prepared for some eye tolling at Inan and Zel though. Then again this is YA genre so some maybe over the moon for them. #blackeriters #blackauthors #africanauthors #africanwomenauthors #africannovels #blacknovels #blackcritics #goodblackreads #diasporareads
I picked this up several years ago, read a handful of pages, got bored and gifted it to a friend. Five years later, I'm trying again. Hi my name is Debra Davis and I am the author of Brianna's dreams. This is a book about a child's experience in Foster care. I created this story to share my experience through the eyes of a child. It helps adults understand a child's perspective on being in Foster care and some of the challenges that they face. I would love for other professionals in the psychology field to share this book with their clients and their families as they navigate through the challenges of Foster care or any adverse experiences such as abandonment issues! You can purchase a copy of my first book series of Brianna's Dreams using this link https://www.Amazon.com/Brianna's-Dreams-Just-Want-Know/dp/1947656759 #authors #africanwomenauthors #writers #entrepreneurlife #writerslifestyle #childrens 'book #blackauthors #films #moviescenes #directors #child abuse #domesticviolence

Day 12: Central African author . I'm trying to read new countries this year, and this is definitely on my list. But I made a promise to myself to not buy new books until I've read the ones on my shelf. . This is obviously unrealistic, and I find myself feeling guilty every time I buy a book that I really want. But my friend shared a really cool tip with me this weekend. He said that for every three books I read, I can buy one. This way, every new purchase feels like a reward, and I know that I don't have to wait too long for a new book. The guilt is also diminished. I'm trying this now. . . #rewritebookstachallenge #bookstagram #bookstagramafrica #bookshelf #bookrecommendations #africanauthors #bookclub #bibliophile #blackauthors #africanwomenauthors #africanliterature #blackliterature #blackwomenauthors #blackwomenliterature #labastarda #bookaddict
