Super exciting discovery this morning, Hectic Zebra was played on an Afrobeat radio show in America! Thanks for the support @djmeredithbtr @btrtoday
Ngimbonile ft Lwazy & Leon Lee still doing well 💯. Thanks for the support @missdreamer._
true story, would it be a record from cameroon heard by chance in 1972 by dj david mancuso at an west indian flea market in brooklyn, where he bought a copy to play at his lower east side party "the loft" and it was an instant smash with the dancers, with word of mouth spreading to frankie crocker who quickly sourced a copy to play on WBLS where the "soul makossa" subsequently took over the new york city airwaves, before spreading nationally and becoming a certified radio success but(!) nobody could get a copy, so imitation tracks sprung up all over the country to meet the demand (ahem) to the point where there more than 20 different cover versions(!) with 2 on the hot 100 at the same time(!), meanwhile atlantic was trying to license it for a proper domestic release hence that "the original" sticker on the cover(!), and to this day remains africa's only ever number 1 hit on american radio?
