The day I got sunburnt in 13°c cause I'm THAT pale 🌞👻 Sitting on my bedroom floor is far too common for me. Ever since I was a child I would hide in my room when I felt scared. I've always suffered with social anxiety. As I got older it got worse. Society has a way of telling us who we "should be". How we should look. What trends are. Family & friends have us as a role in their life, not giving us the freedom to change who we are. We are always growing yet people expect us to remain the same. We do it to others too 🤷‍♀️ How do we know who we are. Do we like/ dislike some-thing / value or were we subtly geared to think the way we do?🤔 I've never felt "normal" or like I fitted in. But in a world where we are all lost, we are all misfits. The only "normal" is the constant of change. Everything is always changing. If you are like me, on your bedroom floor or your favourite hiding place remember you are not different there are a million more people like you in their spot at the very same moment. Question everything you think. Anxiety is there because you are suppressing your truth. Speak it. Do it. Be it. Be free 🕊
Thursday thoughts... 💭 . This is something that I battle with constantly. I bend over backwards to make others happy. Not even just people I am close to. I am a people pleaser and unfortunately it’s resulted in me being stepped and trampled on over the years which has also resulted in my anxiety getting much worse. . I’ve found out who true friends are and those who didn’t ever care about me but only about themselves. It’s a shame really, however in life, I think you have to go through these things in order to identify who you really are. . I never thought I was strong enough to deal with losing others who turn their back on me.. Friendships, relationships. But it turns out I am. A few months back I was in a low energy and anxious state. I haven’t been working out in a while, so it was hard for me to start. I’ve retired from the military and I receive a little compensation from them. I used to live in Puerto Rico but because of the Hurricane Maria I had to move to Florida. I at 220 when I got here and I decided to invest in my fitness and health. Today I’m 195 with a lot more energy and motivation. Mind and body refusing to cooperate? Yep, sounds about right. . . . The mind body connection is real, y’all. It’s powerful. One of the best things we can do for ourselves when stressed or anxious is try to find the balance between both. How can we do that? . . . •meditation- 5 or 10 mins is sometimes all you need to reconnect to your breath. Often times once you’re able to maintain a relaxed breathing pattern, you can calm your mind and body and bring back a state of stillness. . . •yoga- a great practice of mind body connection. It’s pretty much the foundation of the whole thing. And you’ll begin to create that foundation for yourself off the mat as well. . . . •body scans- find a space where you can sit quietly and close your eyes. Mentally scan your body for any stress or tension. Once found, actively tighten that place in your body with your inhales and release the tension with your exhales. Allow exhales to release all the tension you find and then exhales will start to equate to release. . . . Which one can you practice this week? OCD is a liar and a trickster. It tries to make you believe that you’re in danger, that you are the content of your thoughts, that you like your thoughts, that you will act on your thoughts, etc etc. . Even when you know how terrified you are of your thoughts, OCD will try and convince you otherwise. Maybe you have a sexually intrusive thought about a family member and your mind jumps to “Oh my god, did I feel something down there? Am I turned on?” and then you likely go down the rabbit hole trying to figure out whether or not that thought is true. . This is one of OCD’s many tricks. The thing is, we don’t need to solve or make meaning out of our thoughts. By doing so, we are actually feeding the O-C cycle and alerting our brain that the obsessions matter. Checking the way you feel when you have intrusive thoughts is compulsive. It not only feeds the O-C cycle, but likely makes you feel more of that sensation or emotion because you’re putting so much focus on it. . What is the key to managing OCD’s lies? It’s UNCERTAINTY! It’s accepting the presence of thoughts, images, sensations, and urges without trying to solve them or make them go away. It’s accepting uncertainty that maybe the thoughts are true, maybe they’re not (yes, this is hard but it’s so important). It’s tolerating the discomfort of not knowing, which starves the OCD monster. . You can live a full and meaningful life with uncertainty.
