Before, my awesome client Josephine W. @josephinewisterfaure was very stiff on her shoulders. Her shoulder flexión and extension were very limited. But she didn’t give up. Now, she can now fully flex and extend her shoulders. Great work you did, Josephine. I’m proud of you! Use this photo to test your own shoulder mobility. ✅For shoulder flexión: You should be able to have your arms cover your ears without arching your lower back. ✅ For shoulder extension: your biceps shouldn’t touch your upper back. Without proper joint mobility, you can’t have proper exercise technique. Your posture then will get compromised, thus increasing your chances of getting injured. So, you have to make sure that you get the proper range of motions FIRST and foremost BEFORE adding any forms of weight bearing to your training regimen. Have you stretched your shoulders today? Here's a little detail on setting a stable base for #sideplank . Most people think they need to crank the shoulders down away from ears, but try this and see what you think. . . Hand is placed a little more forward than directly under shoulder, lengthen the side body as much as possible, then press the shoulder back and externally rotate the upper arm. Shoulder blade can draw down and into the back to help roll the chest both toward the sky and the chin. . . Holding as is is a great shoulder and hand stretch. The other day we discussed band pull aparts and how to perform them. Here is an example of how they can be programmed as part of your warm up ⚡️⚡️⚡️ In this circuit the pull aparts are matched with two “core exercises”... physioball V-ups and planks w/ a hip rotation ⚡️⚡️⚡️ We like to train the midsection during our warm up to prime the muscles of the core and elicit carry over as we get to the bigger lifts ⚡️⚡️⚡️ For similar reasons the pull aparts are used to warm up the muscles of the upper back and shoulders, and to promote proper posture throughout the remainder of the workout ⚡️⚡️⚡️ This circuit was followed by ➡️superset of pull ups & kettlebell swings ➡️heavy deadlifts ➡️superset of Bench Press & Bent Over Rows ➡️finisher of Sled Pushes
A bit late - still pretty new to having a professional social media account, but I will be better about posting my stretches! Week 2: The Arms - when stretching the arms it is important to keep the opposition between pulling the shoulders down and reaching the arm away to create the stretch. Day 1: The triceps brachii stretch - Either sitting or standing bend the right elbow with the elbow pointing to the ceiling and the hand reaching between the shoulder blades. Use your left hand to gently pull the elbow closer to your head and down. To further this stretch, take your body to the left keeping the chest and shoulders open. Slowly roll your body down and around, coming up on the other side. Depending on your flexibility you can either bend your knees, have a soft bend, or keep them straight.
