So the two things I needed at the grocery store this morning were these blueberries and raspberries for my salad. I had the brilliant idea last night to use the leftover strawberry sauce from my Easter dessert as a salad dressing because it reminded me of an old favorite raspberry dressing from one of my favorite salad bars. And it worked! It was so tasty with the berries, cooked chicken, bacon pieces and a spring mix salad! 🎉
#meal4 And a sistah was excited to see this. Today wasn't perfect But ya know what? I didn't stop at taco Bell for nacho fries or Wendy's for a 4 for 4 or McDonald's. All places i often frequent after meetings omw home to dinner. I didn't eat the chips and cookies prominently on the dining room table. I ate 2 apples instead before the salad. Can't speak on what's to come tomorrow. But today... I didn't do what I would normally do and that's a win, family. That's a win. And I'ma take it. I'ma celebrate. // Do you feel like your doctor abandoned you? // One of things we see often is people who feel abandoned by the medical world every time they try to explain their symptoms. It can be so overwhelming and scary to be sitting there sick, starring down at a white coat, hopping your doctor will have answers. And the answers are often scary and not what you want to hear. People who come to us feel like they have been going to their doctor and they are not being listened to and are treated like they are insane. Maybe for 20 years of your life you were healthy and then suddenly started to feel very sick. So you went to your doctor and he/she tells you that you are “fine” and that you just need to talk to the therapist. But deep inside you know you are really sick. Then a year later, you end up with a whole lot of medical issues – hair loss, high cholesterol, joint pain, brain fog, double vision, stomach pain, and the list goes on and on. When you don’t get the right help, symptoms are only going to progress, leaving you more helpless and frustrated. Cooked up some pulled beef in the crockpot (I season it with thyme, oregano, sage, and lots of @redmondrealsalt ), sliced some jicama super thin, and then piled on the guac and lettuce for a totally AIP dinner 🎉 . Who wants to make their own sauerkraut? I do! Yes, there are so many amazing, artisanal sauerkrauts in health food stores and at farmers markets, but seriously, sauerkraut is one of the cheapest and easiest things to make (the waiting is the hardest part). My trick is to make the first batch, have some store-bought on hand until it’s ready, and then when it’s ready, make the next batch so you never run out! ——————————————————— Sauerkraut is a fermented food so it has all the good bacteria your gut needs to thrive. Eating one teaspoon of fermented foods per day can help balance out your ratio of good to bad bacteria. NOTE: for those with SIBO, research has shown that it may be beneficial to wait 6 months before adding fermented foods back into your diet, as it can increase the reoccurrence of SIBO if started too quickly. ——————————————————— Here’s a fast and super simple recipe @dazzosf made two nights ago: •1 head @tomaterofarm cabbage (purple or green) •2 tbsp. Pink Himalayan salt •Optional: garlic (avoid if low-FODMAP or SIBO), fresh ginger, fresh turmeric, mustard seeds (avoid if AIP) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Shred cabbage and add sea salt in a bowl. Mash together until the liquid is released, enough to cover the cabbage. Put in a mason jar(with optional ingredients) and make sure it is air right. Store in a cool, dry place (62-72 degrees) for up to two weeks.
