Some baby per cups like ezpz Tiny Cup and Reflo Smart Cups are perfect !
What are your thoughts on open cups for babies? Do you think it's crazy? 🤨I'll admit that when I was first learning about the importance of them, I was a little shocked. Why does no one tell us about stuff like this? The only thing you ever really hear about cups is how good they are at preventing spilling.
And while yes, our sanity is important, when babies eat it isn't supposed to be a mess free proposition! 🤷♀️ In my mind, we want to think most about what will promote proper development and not have a negative effect on feeding long term, and then come the more typical concerns around cups. That means tossing out the sippy cups, as clean as they keep things. (Note here that I'm specifically talking about sippy cups- meaning things with spouts like what I'm showing here- straw cups are not sippy cups!) Sippy cups just don't serve much purpose other than keeping things clean, and potentially can cause some damage. As unpopular of an opinion as that might be. 😆Instead focus on open cups first and foremost, and once they've got that down then start introducing straw cups.
Keep in mind that before one, babies shouldn't really be drinking anything outside of breastmilk or formula and a bit of water with meals. Those meals are great times to introduce open cups! You're right there to help them at first as they learn to pick the cup up and sip from it. And if you start with open cups first, a lot of times by 12 months, when drinking from cups becomes even more important, you'll be shocked at their skills! I've got a blog post that goes more into detail about cups and options, as well as gives guidance on how to teach your baby to drink from an open cup. Link in bio @newwaysnutrition.
This is a simple shot glass from @ikeausa.
Perfect for those little hands and fingers. If you've got one at home, use it! Otherwise I've got some similar ones, as well as other cups I recommend, in my amazon store (at the link in my bio!)
