For the past 5 years I’ve been a happy ‘watcher’ and a supporter of my partners fitness, health and MMA journey, something I always admired about him, his dedication and skill to do some things I never thought I’d even be able to attempt. I would see the girls at the gym train and never in my life thought I’d be able to keep up with any of them, let alone finish a class 😂 they looked so strong and fit! I tried BJJ for the first time last year and absolutely loved it then quickly, after only a few classes, got pregnant with Sage so decided to stop. Fast forward to a couple months ago I decided I wanted to do something for myself, not just for my physical health, but for my mental health and to show my girls , my kids , that their mummy is strong too and they can do anything they want to do! So I started doing small changes and steps.. eating better and consciously, walking, garage exercises and finally after I gathered the confidence stepped back onto the mats. Super daunting to feel like the least fit person there but everyone is SO welcoming and encouraging. I have my little support crew who are always willing to stop and teach which I’m so grateful for 🙏🏽 . Thankyou @empiremixedmartialarts for creating a genuine, supportive and open space for people like me to train and not feel like a dickhead 😂 . I feel good , strong and proud for finally doing something for me. If anyone has been feeling like they want to try something new and step outside their comfort zone I would 💯 recommend it. Don’t worry, my page isn’t going to go all #fitspo #fitmom 😂 but just wanted to post incase anyone else was feeling like they couldn’t ever do something like this! If there’s one thing I firmly believe in, it’s leading by example. As a fitness professional, I’m always preaching about taking care of one’s body through clean eating, physical activity and regular wellness check ups with a Doctor. However, I have been preaching without a follow through of my own. I have not had a physical or wellness check up in a long, long time 😬 As a person that has a history of cancer, that is very irresponsible of me. Skipping that part of health and wellness has been eating at me for a while, but I continued to drag my feet. Until today! This afternoon I bit the bullet and established a primary care physician. It felt so good to focus on myself and have some concerns cleared up with my NP.
