The first race weekend for the Lightfighter electric race bike is in the books, and what a huge success it was! We handily took the W in @ahrmaofficial
Formula Lightning Extreme, but the real challenge was Formula Thunder, where big V-Twin Ducatis and Pierobons play. The ambient temperature was in the triple digits, and the action on track was even hotter. Tom Wilbert's Ducati 848-powered Pierobon killed me on the straights, but the Lightfighter's brakes and handling helped me keep Tom behind me. On the last lap the heat was getting to both our bikes, but I was able to hold him off by a nose at the line, reeling off a string of 1:55 lap times in the process, which was our goal for the bike. The official victory was short lived because technically electric bikes aren't eligible for Formula Thunder - so they disqualified me, but let me race the next day for no points.
My second shot at Formula Thunder the following day was good and bad. I spent the race chasing a Ducati 1299 Panigale who was holding me up in the corners, but would leave me in the straights. Meanwhile, Wilbert was still chasing me. In the process of battling each other, I was able to reel off a low 1:53! Way exceeding our expectations! Unfortunately, a technical issue forced me to abort the race a lap early. Still, it was such a great weekend. We'll go back now, go over the data, regroup, make some changes, and rejoin the AHRMA circus at one of my favorite tracks - Utah Motorsports Campus (aka Miller Motorsports Park). What a special project to be a part of. And to think, we're just getting started.
TL;DR: Two races, two wins... and one DQ.
Huge thanks to the sponsors!
And, of course, huge thanks to @wisdesigner
(and his dad!) who literally runs this team out the back of his Ford Transit Connect. #dadvan
