Good morning ☀️ this is a post-meditation selfie. I know I keep banging on about it but guys my brain feels niceeeee. And for someone who’s been more depressed than not for the last 3-4 years that’s a big deal. To be fair I suspect it’s also all the awesome fruits and veggies I’ve been eating and the zero (!!!!!) binge eating I’ve done in the last ten days. 10 days may not seem like a lot but even just 3 weeks ago it was something that still happened once or twice a week, even though I didn’t want to, even though I was trying to recover. Günlerdir bi sorudan kaçıyorum. Haftalar önce bir arkadaşım bana bir soru sordu. Cevabı biraz can acıtıcı. Yine de benim bunu size borçlu olduğumu düşünüyorum. Terapinin eksi yönü neler? Yeme bozukluğu için başladığım terapi sürecini tüm açıklığıyla anlatmaya karar verdim. . Kaç kilo aldın Gece? 2 yıl önce başladığım terapi sürecinde toplam 15 kilo aldım. Çok ağladım, çok düştüm. Hayatım boyunca bu kadar çok düşüleceğine şahit olmamıştım hiç. Meğer insan dizleri kanadıkça daha fazla düşüyormuş. . 1 sene önce ilaç tedavisine başladım. Antidepresan kullanmak istemezdim. Ama malesef durum artık ileri seviyedeydi. Mecburdum. Zannettiğimden daha fazla etkilendim. O dönem Tuba en çok kahrımı çekendi sanırım. İşe giderken her gün başka bir ruh hali ile gidiyordum. Son 1 senede 6 defa ilaç ve doz değiştirdim. Hepsinde bambaşka insanlara dönüştüm . . 2 senedir terapi sürecindeyim. Kolay değil. İlaçla birleşince daha zor oldu yalan yok. Kilo almaktan korkarken rakamlarca kilo aldım. Düşmekten korkarken her hafta daha derin kuyulara daldım. Cesaretim nerden geliyordu bilmiyorum ama yaptım. İyileşmek gerçekten mümkün mü hayal bile etmedim. Sadece azalsın dedim. İnsan sonunu göremediği yola nasıl çıkar? Son çaresi olduğuna inandığı zaman. Başka çare aradım. İnanın aradım. Ama bulamadım. Her hafta aynı odaya gidip en derine gömdüğüm anılarımı anlatmak yazmaktan bin kat zor. Bunu ancak anne şefkayi gördüğüm bir yerde yapabildim. İşin kötüsü grupta veya bire-bir terapide bu kadar sevgi ve şefkat görmek beni daha da üzdü daha fazla depresyona girdim. Çünkü insan eksik olanla böyle yüzleşince birden ne kadar sevgisiz büyüdüğüne yanıyor. Yanıp küllerinden yeniden doğup yine yanıyor. Hiç bitmiyor sanki. . Diyeceğim o ki bana yeme bozukluğu ile ilgili attığınız her mesaja destek almanız gerek diye cevap vermişimdir sanırım. Psikologa gidin destek alın. Hâlâ bunun arkasındayım. Ama gerçekleri görmezden de gelemem. Ki bu gerçeklerin yanında şimdi tüm benliğimle kendimi korumayı öğrendiysem bunu terapi olmadan yapamazdım biliyorum. I can’t eat that, I’m on a diet” That was my mentality whenever trying to lose weight. Restricting myself only lead to binge eating and then falling off the wagon all together. . I’ve spent a lot of years battling with my weight, and my relationship with food. Obsessing over what I was eating, eating too much or not enough. Stressing out in social situations or eating in front of others. I felt ashamed of myself and my body. Yet I still turned to food for comfort. Like an addict needs a fix, I was addicted to eating. It would make me feel shameful and comforted all at once. . Today my relationship with food is still a work in progress. But I know now that it’s okay to treat yourself. And there’s no such thing as perfection so just try your best. This journey will continue to teach me new things about myself and the way I deal with stresses. In all things food related, there is what the science says and there is personal experience. Hello, 40. 🔥 . Good advice from wise friends - 1) “I lost my mind when I was turning 40. I questioned every decision I’d every made. Then I woke up on my birthday and was back to normal.” and 2) “Oh, turning forty is horrible...until you’re actually forty. Then it’s fine.” 😂 . Yup, it’s true. These big, decade-y numbers are weeeeiiiird. It’s all life-assessment and doubt and confusion and mortality confrontation and...hoping you get some nice presents. 🤪🤣 . But now that forty has finally, officially rolled around I’ve gone from horror and confusion to excitement! Yeah there are some phases to come that won’t be easy and there are some phases behind me that were fun 💃🏽... but I ain’t living in before, soon or maybe. I live HERE, now, with these people. And it’s pretty magnificent. ❤️ . At 40, I’m grateful for so much. My parents, siblings and little whānau, friends, family and neighbourhood 🥰I’m grateful for my body! I’m grateful for art, books, Netflix and teapots. I’m grateful for aeroplanes and medicine ✈️🔬. I’m grateful for the chance to grow and improve. I’m grateful for gardens🌱🌿. I’m grateful to the brave and body-positive here and in real life ❤️ And I’m grateful for chalking up so many (bloody good) years that the number of candles on my cake is actually terrifying my three year old! 😬 Um, someone call the fire department? 🔥😂 . I'm going to be honest. Recovery is one of the hardest things you'll go through. It takes all the energy you have. Everyday. But I promise it will be worth it. There will be a day when you are actually ok. There will be a day when you are THRIVING. There will be a day when you can look in that mirror, hear Ed’s voice and still say ”I am beautiful” because you are. I promise you that this will be worth all the energy, all the pain, whether is physical or emotional. It will take time. You don't just wake up one morning and have everything all together. If it was that easy, I think a lot more people would be in recovery and not stuck in their Ed’s. You have to be patient with yourself, with the people supporting you. It will be a learning process for everyone involved. Keep pushing even when you want to give up. I don't want giving up to be an option. Remember how much you matter. Remember how much you are loved even by people you might not know. Because I love everybody. I know y'all can do this. Stay strong. I've been extra quiet the last few weeks. Much has been going on. I had my week of vacation followed by a week of packing and a weekend of moving. Now I'm in the unpacking phase. I have not worked out. I've been eating terrible. I feel bloated and uncomfortable in my skin. Every morning I wake up thinking today I will do better. I eat one thing bad, I feel ashamed, then I eat another thing bad and feel more ashamed. I'm an emotional eater. It's the circle of depression and binge eating. So today I said to myself "Self, tomorrow is a new day. You will get up. Get moving somehow at home. Eat healthy. Drink your water. But first - let's get it out of our system for good." I went to Wendy's. Decided to get a junior bacon cheeseburger 4 for $4 meal with an extra side of baconator fries. I sat in the drive thru line for a good 15 minutes because apparently it's the hopping spot to be on a Tuesday at 130pm now. I thought and I thought. I feel gross. I don't like how I feel. Eating this food would make my body feel much worse. Was the taste worth it? Normal me is like HELLYESITIS. But I wasn't so sure. I got to the window. I made a split second decision and ordered the parmesan chicken caesar salad. That is a big deal for me. I'm incredibly proud of myself. Baby steps ya'll. We take pride in being able to eat whatever we wish to. We bash down those who make healthy choice. We use all sorts of sarcasm to invalidate their choices. We tease them. We call them names like "party pooper" "spoil sport" "boring" "not happening" etc because deep inside they make us feel guilty. We tell them they are doing living the right way. Let me tell you we do this, because we are insecure and scared. a different #transformationtuesday ☀️ first therapy session selfie ➡️ proud gym selfie ☀️ . . . I knew in the elevator at my first appointment with a new therapist, finally one who specialized in eating disorders, I knew I would feel better. I knew I had to document the range of emotions I felt in those early days of ED therapy. I have been in therapy since elementary school and it took until age 35 to talk about obesity and eating with a therapist. Of all the shame one could address in therapy, my relationship with eating outweighed them all. Isn't it ridiculous I was never asked if I had an eating disorder despite my obese weight? Even when I sought inpatient treatment for my depression my eating habits & weight were never discussed... and I managed to binge in the hospital. My weight was a footnote in the chart. I am learning (and unlearning) my relationship with food & dealing with life on life's terms without numbing everything. I'm so glad I took these photos and did not delete them out of shame. This is what I was feeling those days. I was walking around feeling like that all the time. I struggle every week with eating but I am happier knowing I am in control of more of my life now. Even though I struggle, I feel so much better.
