I don’t often post tips because generally i should imagine most guys would read them and think “who does he think he is handy Andy?” • Well here is my method of scribing flooring around curves and irregular shapes. 1. Cut off a length of underlay to the same dimensions as the flooring panel you require to be scribed. Template created. 2. Lay the template in the space where the flooring panel will go ensuring the square edges are tight against the adjacent flooring you’ve laid. 3. Pushing the template tight against the curve or shape you are scribing. Run a Stanley knife in the crease created giving you the perfect template ready to transfer to the floor panel. 4. Lay the template on the floor panel to be cut, ensuring the square edges are aligned. Draw around the template marking the floor panel ready for cutting. 5. Cut and fit your perfect panel. • Im sure you’ve all got your own ways, but for me personally this is the quickest and most perfect way of creating the exact profile you need. • Pictures are in order of process the above. Let me know what your methods are 👍🏻 • #carpentry #carpenter #finishcarpentry #trimcarpentry #trimcarpenter #joinery #joiner #builder #buildinb #loftconversion #somethingdifferent #finish #doingsomethingdifferent #flooring #luxaryvinyl #quickstep #tips #scribing #floorlayer #carpentrytips #bbd #horsesforcourses
#tinytiptuesday Happy Tuesday everyone! Here’s a tip to remember for winter work- use some duct insulation or fan fold insulation or even some Tuff-R (1/2” thick or less) for foot warmers...😊 #tips #tricks #hacks #carpentrytips #carpentryhacks #work #build #renovate #remodel #share #learn #educate #warm #heat #footwarmers #winter #coldweatherwork #keepwarm #peter_heard
There’s nothing quite like that first cut with your new toy 🙌 What tools have you been working with lately? Try out our Circular Saw on your next project.
As a #DIYer , our game changed once we learned how to pre-assemble. Then we realized there are many ways to do it.... how do you pre-assemble? #carpentry #tooltip #carpentrytips #carpentry101 #trimcarpentry #carpentry101 #buildit #diyhomeimprovement #finishingcarpentry #carpentrytips #diycarpentry
#tinytiptuesday#repost 🙌 @peter_heard#jlclive ・・・ ... here’s another simple trick from Tom @ezrabuilders If you’ve installed back band trim before, you’ll quickly appreciate the tip. If not, follow it thru and see if it makes sense... “This block makes it quick and easy to cut the miters without having to fiddle with aligning the piece, especially when the mark is in the low side of the trim.” Thanks Tom! Next level staircase 👌
@kasselconstruction ‘s bells are ringing in this #tinytiptuesday post. How many times have I forgotten to do this so it’s a good reminder. A lot of guys like to orient all SR boards with the face OUT. That means carrying them 1 at a time. Make it easier by remembering to remove the paper from one side before you load it in your vehicle. Also, make sure you load in the right side...😝 Have a great week!!! #tips #tricks #hacks #carpentrytips #carpentryhacks #work #build #renovate #remodel #share #learn #educate #sheetrock #drywall #drywallhanger #craft #keepcraftalive @kasselconstruction @certainteedcorp #peter_heard
ROUND of applause 👌👏
...how the sausage is made. Because of the sag in the ceiling, the reveal on the frieze (the flat surface under the crown) is 1 13/16” at the outside wall and 1 1/8” about 6’ away. Cabinets are level. On July 20rd I mentioned how the baseboard trim on a kitchen island can be affected by the shrinkage of a girder built of 2x. That effect is less easily masked when new cabinet crown is installed against a ceiling that is not level. Leveling a ceiling before sheetrock not only makes the crown look nicer, it simplifies the crown installation significantly. The joints to the right of the valance fought me valiantly. Smaller molding (and/or a larger frieze) hides these discrepancies a little better. Plus 4” crown did not want to be bent around the hump in the ceiling. While I will scribe some of these types of problems occasionally, it wasn’t really suitable in this instance. I don’t like cutting too far into a smaller top profile of crown when ceilings get really gnarly. Visually, I’d rather add a little bit than subtract. So, caulk. 🤷🏻‍♀️ . . . . #carpentry #trim #crownmolding #crown #moulding #ceiling #cabinet #kitchen #kitchendesign #kitchendesigner #design #designer #architect #architecture #build #construction #carpentrytips #finishcarpentry #strapping #kitcheninstallation #kitcheninstaller #cabinetry #sausage #bumpy
Lets FACE it...woodworking is pretty FAceINATING 🙌
Can I BARROW this 😂👌
This cut comes out a shade different when you have a sliding mitersaw. (I actually posted about that 9/21/18) I had a regular 12” miter saw with me, so this was how I did this cut. In the zoomed in shot of the crown tilted, you can see a small mark (dent) right on the miter. That is the plane of the wall. I cut through that mark. I need one of those Hock marking knives. The cut was finished in both directions with a Tajima pull saw. And yes, the crown did get caulked at that wacky ceiling 🙂. . . . . . #trim #trimcarpenter #carpentry #finishcarpentry #crown #crownmolding #kitchen #kitcheninstall #kitcheninstaller #cabinetry #mitersaw #woodworking #kitchendesign #design #interiordesign #decor #architecture #architect #build #construction #carpentrytips #constructioneducation #dewalt #tablesaw #dw716 #tajima #hock #thisiscarpentry
Nice little detail on this job is all the posts have custom made galv cappings which help stop water sitting on top of the posts and penetrating through the end grain....they also look cool 😎😁 . I’m also applying bondcrete sealer to all cuts and end grain for extra protection. . . . . . #bondcrete #woodsealer #nowoodrothere #galvanizedcap #galvanized #architecture #proudchippy #carpentrytips #itsinthedetails #designfeature #edithvale #rokksolid

Yay for #tinytiptuesday ... thanks @peter_heard for another gem of a pro-tip! #Repost ・・・ #tinytiptuesday Hope you guys are killin’ it this week! Here’s a little @stabila_usa_canada level tip: That beading on your “type 196-2” level casing sure helps with grip. BUT... those ribs are also set up to measure 1-1/2” from each outer edge of the level. That can sure help with layout as our 2x stock measures an 1-1/2”. Building uneven parapet walls today. I snap lines with my two different heights on the ground then measure each stud and cut. Not sure if the most efficient way, but the only way I know how to do it. Tips are always welcome! #carpentry #custombuilding #framing #framers #wisconsinbuilder #framersareadyingbreed #carpentrytips #homebuilder #construction #lovemyjob #custombuilding
