Your needs are NOT an inconvenience . Yet, so many of us feel guilty just by thinking about asking for something . But if you aren’t fighting your corner, who will ???? . Here are 4 basic components to asking for what you need: . 1) Stating the facts without attaching any personal judgement 2) Stating the emotions that you’re feeling 3) Expressing what you need in the situation 4) Making a request to the person . The process is SO simple, yet can be extremely difficult if you’re not used to one of the parts, like sharing your feelings for example. . The process is based on the book “Nonviolent Communication” by Marshall Rosenberg—he tried and tested this in everything from gang mediation to couples therapy. I use it daily in many situations. .
