I find this to be absolutely true. But, for me, it has involved meditation and practicing slowing down my reactions and asking myself "is this about me? Why am I taking this personally?"

Quiet down inside and watch how the world around you s-l-o-w-s d-o-w-n. We live in a very fast pace, always doing, always moving, always busy society. The ego thrives with busyness because it can remain unseen. It can remain in total control of a persons life and run on very basic impulsive desires. Most people are a slave to their impulses. I know that I was for many years. After a while of practicing meditation I began to loosen the grip of my ego and the impulsive habits I had created.
It really does take some time to remove the faulty programming. With some practice you can begin to do so. You will begin to notice yourself more calm and not as reactive when things happen. Because things are going to happen in your life. How you react to those things and how attached you are is going to determine how much you suffer.
Do you practice meditation regularly?
