Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair 🌸🌼🌸🌼 “When record shops were still on top, and vinyl was all that they stocked
And the super-info highway was still drifting out in space
Kids were wearing hand me downs, and playing games meant kick around
And the only way to stay in touch was a letter in the mail
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair” -Sandi Thom
SRI LANKA DAY 2 // after 9 hours of sleep in the dreamiets bed known to man (Jetwing Beach for those interested), we headed to Kalipitya, to the North of Negombo.🌞There were a few unscheduled stops along the way, including a clay brick factory where we watched locals make a particular type of brick using a particular type of local clay with their bare hands (too bare for health and safety, but what do I know?) no less, then to a local 'toddy' producer's house where we watched him climb a palm tree and walk along rope to the next palm tree, to collect the sap from the coconuts to make this local all-natural drink.🌴Crazy? Yes. Incredible to watch? Also yes. From there we hit a local cafe and hostel whose trade has been seriously affected since Easter to have a much-needed lunch, before making our way the not-so-deep Puttalam lagoon. There, wejumped aboard traditional boats with some local fishermen and tried our hand at fishing.🐟 Reader: it was unsuccessful, to say the least. The others then decided to explore the lagoon some more by kayak to try and spot the areas most prized inhabitants: pink dolphins(!)(to no avail), while I sat on the beach and was bitten to death instead - not sure who had a better time tbh...🐬 After that, tired and hungry, we chased the incredible Sri Lankan sunset to our next hotel for dinner and drinks (and bed) where my jetlag decided to kick in and see me get about 12 minutes of sleep during the night.🌅 Joyous. And that brings us to today: another big drive on the agenda, so plenty of time for a snooze. Until tomorrow, keep up with my stories! 🌏 #EricaGoesToSriLanka #travelunmapped

Fun fact: learned so many things at the school of falconry - one of the more interesting - the Shannon airport occasionally shuts downs and hires falconers to fly their birds at the airport to make sure the runway is clear for incoming and outgoing traffic, which also means just viscously killing some - they fly at over 200 mph and punch their prey in midair
Yup, this is a nightly occurrence in Boston.

Still dreaming of Seville - our Spain trip might have been our best vacation to-date! For the first time we actually scheduled in down-time and a stay outside the city to slow down our pace. It made the experience so much more relaxing (and we didn’t get at each others’ throats the way we have on past trips 😅). What’s your favorite vacation of all time and why?
this place is as magical as i always pictured it would be 😭✨
Back from my brief hiatus to share this beautiful space I recently dined in ✨ Food to come later 🍽 Thanks for a great experience, @rosemarysnyc
! Have you been yet?
during our trolley ride in Savannah, we drove by multiple historic houses with these red doors and learned it is a tradition that symbolizes the homeowners completely paying off their mortgage. Mike and I don’t own a home yet but when we do, we’re aiming for the “red door mentality”. 🏠 #theharveysgoplaces
