I recently sat down and had a chat with a very good friend that I had not heard from in quite a while, so I asked him what he had been up to.
He told me that he had really been down on himself lately for all of his past decisions.
When I asked him for an example, he mentioned not finishing his college degree many years prior.
So I took out a piece of paper, drew a line down the middle and told him that we will look at the pros and cons of that one decision.
Pros on the left. Cons on the right.
He immediately said that if he had got his degree, he probably wouldn’t know all the amazing people that he has in his life right now.
I told him that we’re done with our little exercise. Of course, he looked at me with a bit of a puzzled look.
I explained. The pros on the left…and the cons on the right…
Thing is, anything that he could have put on the right side of the paper would be 100% bull! Imagination! Sure, he could have come up with many things to put in that column, but it would all be made up!! Conjecture! Get it?
So go easy on yourself, accept that you can’t change the past but only learn from it, and be grateful that your journey has brought you so many blessings! They are there…even if you have to stop and look for them!
Realising that we are in full control of our outcomes is a powerful awareness.
Accepting to not decide or not choose something is not ambiguous, the decision, the choice, is apparent. So often we can remove ourselves from the driving seat of our lives by the words we use.

We make decisions every day; everything we say and do is the result of a decision, whether we make it consciously or not. For every choice, big or small, there's no easy formula for making the right decision. The best you can do is to approach it from as many perspectives as possible and then choose a course of action that seems reasonable and balanced at that time. If you have a big decision to make, it can seem daunting. But there are some simple things you can do to make it less intimidating, such as identifying the worst case scenario, making a spreadsheet, and following your gut instinct.
