I may be smiling as I made my way over to my gate to catch my #aircanada
flight to travel to #Denali
, but I had cried at the gate hugging Nicole, Steve and Nico.
And I did not care who was looking at me.
I was crying as I messaged Ethan and Julia, Patricia and Dustin as well after I went through security.
I did not care I was in public.
Yes, because climbing tall mountains does scare me. Not that I don’t know I am in great hands with @mountaintrip
as my guides, of course I know I am in great company. I also know Jesus has me! I believe that with all my heart.
And I also know I have trained a lot these last few months with Tyler and I feel strong.
But I would be a fool not to be scared. It’s a HUGE mountain!
However this time the reason I cried more than usual was because I leave behind my mother-in-law gravely ill and perhaps I will not have the chance to see her smile again, by the time I return home. My mother-in-law Ethel Bonnie is a strong woman and has been a role model to woman entrepreneurs, like myself – way before woman owned businesses had a designation and it was something we advocated for. She just did it on her own and raised 5 kids while she was at it, even as a single mother after losing Steve’s dad.
And she did it with poise and grace.
Ethan yesterday told her when him and I visited, as he saw a picture of her when she was much younger than her current 91, “Wow, you looked like a movie star on that picture!” Children have a tendency to be brutally honest. He was right. She looked like a movie star! And every beauty ages gracefully!
I also cried because I feel guilty for not being there to support Steve in case he ends up needing it. And thus my whole family will be very much on my mind, more than usual, and in my prayers and in my heart during this climb.
Pictures tell stories. But it is up to us to ‘attach’ the truth to each and every one of them.
