Snack cook up for the weekend with Miss 4. I think she did an amazing job on her choc chip gluten free blue spirulina cupcakes (learrning tip for her: cool cakes before icing 🤣) Chocolate chip cake and choc pea protein balls with dark choc chips. (I wanted vanilla cheesecake flavour 😪lol)
Somehow i think she likes chocolate and choc chips. But hey, if it means she eats healthy ill grin and bare it 😄
I will post recipes soon but after a long morning of work in the kitchen its off to the play park. 😉

When I was 16/17 yrs old, I was a live-in-nanny (for a very short spell) somewhere in Louisiana for the 8 really rambunctious kids (they were some real handfuls) of a pistol of a woman that all called 'Big Mama'. I stayed in her back shed behind their shotgun shack in exchange for looking after her children and what not. Looking back, I think she did it to humour herself, she knew how bad those kids were! 😂
She made these cajun scrap balls (like hush puppies) with whatever was on hand.
I'd sit on the back porch with her and watch intently as she walked me through the process, with all of her seasoned, backwoods humour sprinkled in.
I was thinking of what to do for dinner tonight and it just so happened that I had a butternut squash and some maze...and it just struck me! That whole experience came rushing back like a shot! "I''ll make my own version of Big mama's balls" and that's what we dubbed them too!
I hadn't thought of this little blip on my young wild journey in a very long time. There have been so many moments with so many special characters...I really need to start putting pen to paper.
Today was a really special day and we brought it to a close with an equally delicious meal that the whole tribe put a lot of energy into.
I was so tired and cranky at points because we've really been pushing ourselves to become the self-sufficient, homesteaders that we want to evolve into.
But then frying up these balls on our open fire, surrounded with laughter and music, everyone pitching in...It shifted me so hard into gratitude that I forgot how ravenous and exhausted I was. I came out of my head and truly present to how completely & outrageously incredible this was!
So here's to Big Mama and to my lil' wabi sabi tribe for really digging in the heels, really getting into the work and reward of being wild and free.
This way of being in the world that we've chosen...Nothing has ever felt so authentic and true to me and nothing has ever tasted so good. 💙💦🐦
