Climbing on Axsom Trail in the Charles C Deam Wilderness Area, Hoosier National Forest
Just when we thought the snow was just for the Sierra. We had hoped to put in some miles today to get to town sooner but little did we know we’d be hiking in snow for miles. We started the day trying to find the best way around Grizzly Peak. We got to the summit only to turn around to look for footsteps in the snow. What was a slog of a hike turned to joy whenever we saw other hikers who had flipped. I think we ran into 11 total including @oreo_on_the_road
and Sunshine! We stumbled upon abandoned cabins along the way, hiked through rolling hills of snow and had snow cones along the way. As descended the ridge we started to see a dirt path again but the snow isn’t over yet. We’re still hitting patches here and there. Tomorrow we’ll be headed into Burney, CA to resupply and treat ourselves to, hopefully good, town food.

:: spent the afternoon up at the land yesterday - and while most of our 23 acres were submerged under the swollen Willow River, there’s still an abundance of food growing wild in the places we can access. Pictured: strawberries (upper right), blueberries (lower left), morel mushroom (lower right), and white pine (upper left; it makes the most delicious, sweet tea and also happens to be packed with Vitamins C and A). Loads of raspberries and blackberries everywhere, too. And while we saw our fair share of warblers and chickadees, heard grouse, and I saw a pair of bald eagles on the way out, the local fauna seemed to be laying pretty low due to the ATVs whipping through the bordering State Forest. And due to Frankie whipping through the land (she was in heaven, but still - gotta bring a tie-line up there for her). I wonder if the ATVers are aware of all the magic they’re missing in the quiet places? I wonder if Frankie is aware that when she’s still, the animals come to her?

Yesterday was so much fun! Outdoor bouldering for me , used to be a game of frustration, self doubt and fear. Those days seem to be long gone and honestly I’m glad because now outdoor bouldering sessions are filled with high psyche, excitement and laughter. 😆 thank goodness I have these lovely psyched people to help me with that! ❤️
an absolutely unforgettable sunrise. I was originally the little figure for the homies, but after a handful of walks back and forth on the ridge I heard a beep come from the walkie. I can’t remember exactly what was said but Derek was insistent that I needed to see what they were seeing. I agreed to switch and he quickly mobbed back over in the FJ to pick me up.
We sped back to the new vista and once I saw what they saw, I immediately lost my shit. Derek then gave me his zoom lens and made his way back to walk the ridge just as the sun peaked higher and burned the morning mist gold. it was wild. but honestly, what I’m reminded of more than the insane light was that Derek gave up his prime spot for me to get the shot. and without getting into the cheese, this will go down as one of the most memorable collabs of all time 🤘🏼
hello nature, I’ve missed you. 😭🌿
I’ve been cooped up for so long that when we came over the peak today, and I saw the mountains for the first time in months, I cried. My spirit instantly felt at home, at peace and alive again. I’ve been gone too long. This is where I belong.
I hope you’ve been making time for the things that fill you up and bring you joy. If not, let this be a gentle reminder that self care is necessary. Please take the time you need to rest and refuel. Please allow yourself those moments of connection and reflection. Please indulge your spirit, and if you’re into the outdoors, allow Mother Nature to bring you back to center. She’s fantastic at it.
A much-needed day hike at McConnells Mill Park ☺️👌🏼
