Want a bigger bench? You must be willing to CHANGE the way you typically press! Most people bench with their chest in mind, I have been doing so for years and is a bodybuilding style of pressing. If you want to stay healthy and lift HEAVY weight you must โ€œturn offโ€ the chest and activate the Triceps. This will require time and less weight to learn proper form! A lot of people will have a problem taking one step back to move two steps forward... At the bottom of the lift is where you see most pec and shoulder injuries occur because the muscles are tense like a โ€œcoil.โ€ Rarely ever do you see someone tear their triceps benching. My advice is to build a strong upper back and triceps which is what I have been doing. My Routine For Triceps: 1) Reverse Bench up to 1RM then drop down sets 2) Cross Body DB Extension 3) French Press 4) OH rope extensions (last set till failure) all of these are great, but I love the reverse bench as a true Tricep dominant exercise.
