Fundraising Friday! Each week we'll be featuring stories from our supporters. If you've fundraised or supported SSNAP in any way over the years, we'd love to share your hard work! This week, meet Hayley and Shaun: "Hi, our names are Shaun and Hayley and SSNAP were very much there for us in our time of need. During Hayley’s pregnancy we encountered no issues, and everything was rather routine. Hayley very much enjoyed being pregnant and apart from the usual aches and pains there was nothing which could be said apart from it being an enjoyable experience. At the 36 week check up Hayley was measuring slightly larger and we were asked to go to hospital to be assessed, in which they informed us that our baby was approximately 9lb 12. As you’d expect we were somewhat taken back by the doctor’s comments and based on their recommendations we opted for an elected C-section on the 12th June, four days before the due date.
The procedure went as planned at Milton Keynes University Hospital and Hayley gave birth to our beautiful baby boy, who in fact turned out to weigh 10lb 5! From the moment he was placed on the weighing scales we knew something was wrong. With every breath that he took was accompanied with a ‘grunting’ sound and his complexion became more purple/bluer. He was rushed off to neonatal before Hayley could even hold him and placed in
an incubator where numerous doctors and nurses performed countless tests and assessments. The underlying issue at the time was that his saturation levels were very low, and his body was unable to exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide without medical assistance. (Cont in comments)
Can't believe how close we are to the Intro to self- defence fund raiser for @pelotonia
I've recently started my second year as a post doctoral researchers supported by this amazing charity, and it genuinely feels like were part of a community. For the past 10 years, Pelotonia has been supporting cancer research through funding novel and ground breaking projects, and making amazing advances in patient care.
As a fellow, I love this commitment to curing cancer and want to help spread awareness for Pelotonia and even raise some funds for this incredible charity.
Since every last dollar raised for Pelotonia goes back into cancer research, I'm helping by raising a modest $1200 this year.
If you would like to help my efforts, just visit the link in my bio and donate today. You can also join the charity event that I am co-organizing with the help of some brilliant people and a little donation by @staufs_coffee
in Columbus, Ohio.
We're introducing basic self defence techniques on the 23rd of June, at the Biomedical Research Tower (address 473 W 12th Ave, Columbus). Come join us, but first register by donating $10 via the link in bio.

We would like to start #FundraisingFriday
with our first event spotlight - HoopHers! @hoophersphilly
is our Girl’s Empowerment Program, and on January 17th, 2019, officially began at Cobb’s Creek Recreation Center.
Because of @philaparkandrec
, we were able to transform the lives of young girls! Cobb’s Creek became a place of growth, basketball skill development, and a safe haven for our young girls to discuss gender specific challenges they may face — off and on the court!
It is not too late to help send some HoopHers student-athletes to camp! This June, we want to send 100 deserving young kids to camp.
Visit the link in our bio to donate TODAY!
