Ugh. Hi 👋🏼 My name is Rachelle. I am 41.56383849 years old & I have SRS. Also know as Short Run Syndrome. Yes. I am making this up as I go. Yes. I did forget to bust out a wizz before getting out, so therefore I did run whilst holding in a wizz. I highly do not recommend it. Just getting out means a whole bunch to me ...so even though I’m not capable of running huge distances or doing even my short ones really well, still here I am, on the floor, getting back into it, without any pressure, hopeful that soon I’ll be able to cruise around the block in 15-20 minutes without a care in the world. It may be vacation but I still got up at 6.30 so I could train early 💪 again focus on arms, but also on posture - I seriously struggle with tilting my upper body forward and I still run straight up. Gonna have to practice me some mountain climbers 🤣 today's training was 10x250m at 4'00-4'20 ("strong pace", it was indeed) which was harddd so I was dead afterwards 😵🤣 but so satisfied from this training! Unfortunately painful shins, so iced it straight after while still at the gym and they already feel much better - will ice them 3x a day today and tomorrow. #transformationtuesday because I did warn you I'd be milking it all week! . From Couch to 5k 2 years ago and the hardest 5k ever, to 47k of bog and mountain. And it wasn't a smooth road between the two, it was a trail paved with ankle breaking rabbit holes! . I never thought I'd be able to run, but I pushed through couch to 5k and it worked. And I just kept pushing. I still am, I want more. I want to be stronger, faster, further and nothing will stop me now #🐰🌑 . . Thanks to @cakejaggaley for right photo.
Progress isn’t Linear • It’s safe to say I’ve been through a fair few changes in between these two photos. • Since my injury I’ve been having a pang of fear that I’m moving backwards. The number on the scales and my running pace back that up. The fact that halfway through Sunday’s 50K I simple couldn’t run anymore, rammed home that I’m far from 100%. • But what I’m comparing it to is pre Marathon des Sables where I was the fittest and lightest I’d ever been. • The chap on the left was 130kg and could barely run. Comparing my fitness and health to him I realise just how momementally far I’ve come, even though I’ve taken a step back. • To steal from @little.runner.mel post this morning; “progress isn’t linear”. 🏇🏇🏇 Don’t you just love a sprint finish- always brings a smile to my face 😄 . Project sub 1.50 however is off to a slow start. I’m on a “10km per week” limit for the next few weeks from my physio, but now the professional advice I’m receiving is conflicting- my physio says I can swim several times a week, but my hairdresser says no because it’s terrible for my hair! . Question ❓❓❓ . .👟Does anyone else wear their running shoes till they literally fall apart? Or do you have many pairs that your alternate? 👟As you can see, I wear mine til they are completely unusable and that day came today when the hole was large enough that it caused my toe to bleed. 👟I'm not cheap or anything, as I have a few other pairs I haven't worn yet. I'm not sure why I wear them for so long. I really don't know. I just like to use one pair at a time I guess. Honestly, I think I'm stubborn. When I first got these shoes they caused pain in left calf/ankle and I refused to get a new pair, I just wore them till I got used to them. It took a couple of months. I've worn them over a year now. That's over 1500 miles! OMG, I'm really weird. Lol 🙃 👟 Well it's time to break in a new pair. I didn’t want to show up today, but got it in anyways. Got my butt kicked in gear and actually pushed harder than I have in a while and feel really great. . My ankle seems to be healing really well finally, so I am going to keep following doctors orders and limit exercise to cycling until I am cleared for anything else. . Is this what being an adult is?? I don’t like it.
A minor setback paved the way for a major comeback... A visit to the PT today gave me some good insight into why I’ve been having so many issues with my hamstring & now foot. All of this stems from the fact that my left leg/glute is significantly weaker than my right side. My body is so good at compensating that I can still do all the exercises, etc. but I’m not actually using the correct muscles to do them. I need a lot of work to get back on track & after discussing with my PT & my coach, I don’t think running Javelina is a good idea for me this year. First off as we have already determined I’m not where I want to be training wise. Second this weakness could cause significant issues down the road if I don’t concentrate on getting stronger on my left side & loosening up my right side. I want to be able to run for a very long time so & I actually started thinking about this a few days ago after chatting with a friend, and I am putting the 100 mile goal on the back burner until I can train in a way to give me the best chance to finish strong. That being said, I’ve decided that I’m going to focus on the marathon for the rest of the year. It’s funny to say it’s because it’s shorter but marathon training will be a lot more manageable & I won’t be super stressed trying to figure out how to fit in all the training for Javelina. And after I’ve fixed this, if it’s meant to be, I will run a 100 miles & if it’s not, that’s ok, I am still a runner even if I don’t ever run 100 miles 😊. Yesterday I ran 6 miles (8 total with walking) pain-free with a torn hip labrum❗️ It has taken nearly 9 months of slow building to get here and it will take even longer to get back to where I was before my injury. But I ain’t worried. Why? BECAUSE I’M RUNNING! . For all you injured runners out there: SLOW AND STEADY WINS. RECOVERY WORKS. DON’T RUSH THE COMEBACK. 👏🏽 Take time OFF (completely) to heal your injury. When you’re good and healed: run easy, increase distance in very small increments (I did .25 miles at a time), strength train your weak muscles (most likely that 🍑), and stretch/roll at least as often as you’re running. 👊🏽 Give your body TIME to heal and readapt to the stresses of training—you’re not weak; you’re just growing muscles and fixing tendons and gaining cardio, all of which take TIME. ⏱ If you’re running after an injury—no matter how long—you are ALREADY making a comeback. Don’t rush it because you can’t be patient and end up right back where you started. 🤕 . . . 🙏🙌🏽✌🏽
