Today is the start of Week 3 of our #wilderfuturechallenge
, our penultimate week! The summer seems to be flying by but we have so enjoyed seeing how you’ve all been joining in. I’ll be posting my favourite in my stories again later today 🌸💛
This week’s theme is to ‘build a bug or hedgehog house’. I’ve recently posted about the drastic decline in insect numbers and our native hedgehog is also struggling. Once a common sight, they are now one of Britain’s most endangered species and their numbers have fallen by 1 million since 1995, that’s half their population gone since the turn of the century! I couldn’t imagine Britain without our prickly friends, so what can we do to help?
1. Build a log pile or hedgehog house in your garden - @thewildlifetrusts
have some great tips on their website
2. Leave a gap at least 13x13cm in garden fences so they can get out
3. Leave out food and water, such as meaty cat food. Remember, milk and bread are not good for them so avoid these.
4. Leave an area of your garden wild.
Our wildflower planting is great as it will encourage insects into your garden and food for the hedgehogs!
We hope you can get involved this week in whatever way you can. Let’s encourage some bugs and hedgehogs into our gardens and help nature to recover.
Tag us in your posts any time.
We’ll all be sharing our activities and ideas to help thorough out the week. Have fun! 😊🤗🌱🦔🐜🐞🐛🐝 #northwaleswildlifetrust #thewildlifetrusts #WilderFuture #savethehedgehogs #savethebugs #leaveyourgardenwild #ipreview
