Y’all my commitment to this was put to the test as the #mtgthepodcast
with my interview rolled out. I had SO MUCH FUN with these women, seriously we laughed so much and I loved it. I felt very at ease during our recording. But after. AFTER. As I rehearsed what I said in my head and wanted to change things, I got nervous. And then I tried not to dwell on it...and then it came out and I felt torn. I wanted to support my friends and their podcast, but to do that meant promoting something that I felt kind of rough about. And promoting is usually done from a place of excitement and positivity and I was not feeling an overwhelming amount of either of those. I know this sounds dramatic, but it felt a little like me taking the L so my friends could succeed. I was faced with the question: am I willing to do this?
As you know from my stories yesterday, I went for it. Because it’s not about me. Even this business that has my name isn’t about me. And for as many times as I’ve said that and learned that, it’s still a tough pill to swallow sometimes.
And if I’m being really, really, really, really honest in a way I don’t even want to be with myself, I did say some good things. Deep down, I am really proud of the way it went, even for the things I’d change. I feel like I have some knowledge to pass on and it was freaking awesome to have a place to do so.
So I encourage you to take a listen. Find it on Spotify and Apple Podcasts by searching “More Than Graphics.” Follow these incredible women @bougiebeautybabe @octanedesigns @anotherbrittany
and listen to their stories. If you find something of value in listening, pass it on. ☝🏼A few notes because I can’t let this go: I mispronounced Lauren Hom’s name of @homsweethom
even though I do really know it’s like “pom,” not like “home.”🤷🏻♀️ But I passed on her superwoman wisdom and that’s reason in and of itself to listen.
Also when I say I don’t want to “commend” a particular way of doing business, I for sure was playing a bad anagram game of one and meant “condemn.” 🙃
And finally, these are the tools I listed off that help me run a business: @asana @bearfocustimer @usetoggl @_finalstraw_ @miir
