Everybody asks which is better! Machines? Dumbbells? Bars? Why not all?
The truth is that there is no one better than the others, all are different. Each one has its advantages and disadvantages, having one thing in common, with all it is possible to build muscle mass.
For strength athletes the bar is the favorite, since it is easier to go heavy with them.
Dumbbells are the most indicated to correct/prevent disproportions between both sides, since it is not possible to compensate with the other side.
For beginners the machines are the most indicated, for being the safest equipment and for being the easiest place to learn how to make the movements in a correct way.
One thing that dumbbells and bars have in common is that they work the stabilizing muscles more than the machines. These in turn make it easier to isolate the muscle.
The best thing for an athlete is to use the advantages of all three equipment. An example is to start with 1-2 exercises for strength with bar (<5 reps), then do 2-3 more exercises with dumbbells (6-10 reps) and finish in the machines doing isolated exercises (>10 reps). This way we end up having a complete training for push/pull/legs or for full body training from the fastest to the most resistant muscle fibres.

To start of I’ve been lifting and taking care of my health and fitness for about 4.5 years now and can say that I’ve learned so much over the course of those four years. Still have much to learn and I’m always learning. I wanted to share some of my thoughts on starting.
For someone who is just starting off with weight training or who is just trying to get in better shape my number one piece of advice is to stay consistent and integrate it into your life as smoothly as possible.
🏋️♀️ If you can only lift 3-4 days a week that’s perfectly fine! Just get in there and get it done. ⠀
My second sprinkle of advice would be to always keep an open mind and always try to be learning. Immerse yourself in knowledge.
That being said I don’t believe all advice is good advice find reputable people who you can talk to or watch and find out good information. For example my gym @ironheavengym
host monthly nutrition seminars and it’s free information where you can get you questions answered. It was extremely helpful to me when I attended this seminar.

Increasing calories can sound scary but it’s learning to TRUST THE PROCESS! My goal is to increase muscle mass so that’s what’s got to be done for the off season to achieve this👏🏻
I weighed myself for the first time today since my competition and the scales have increased (probably more than i thought they would of) BUT something I always tell my clients is to not rely on those scales! Progress photos show SO much more than the scales! Over this month post show I’ve put weight on, I’m looking fuller again (it’s not sustainable to stay show day lean) and I’m SO much stronger!
Looking at this past week with my new training programme & calorie increase I’ve hit new PBs and I can see my body changing shapes which is exactly the plan! I want to grow and this is the only way to do it💪🏻 so I’m going to keep pushing and enjoy the journey♥️
