Medal Monday- Finished my first half Ironman!
It didn’t go as expected, but it went, and I’m proud of that.
Quick race recap:
Swim: went great, got a little lost with sighting, but felt great!
Felt good running out of the water, hit transition, got to the bike mount line, and got a side cramp. (Like my whole right side cramp)
Bike: took the fist 30min pretty easy trying to get the side cramp to go away. It hurt to even try to get down in aero. I breathed deep, drank, salted, and it was just sticking around. At that point I realized I forgot to put my GUs on the bike 😭. Tried to forget about the cramp, got in aero anyway and managed to grab 1 GU from an aid station. Couldn’t see my power on my watch, so ended up going by feel and mph. Managed to average 18mph on the bike 👍🏼 Even having to stop to put my chain back on at one point 😑 Also got a burst of energy after seeing my girls on the course running along with me ❤️
Into transition, thinking I’d stretch, take some deep breaths and I’d be off running. Unfortunately the cramp was here to stay 😔.
Run: I have never walked out of transition, but this time I did. I was so annoyed and wanted to cry a couple times. I realized that is not going to help and I need to start running. I’m not walking 13 miles. Focused on making it aid station to aid station. They were every mile and the volunteers were amazing! I took all the ice! In my visor, down my kit, in my bra, had cold water dumped on me. Wish I could have enjoyed the run more. My legs felt ok, I was running up the hills while a lot of people were walking because I trained the hills and my legs were good to go... the cramping was frustrating. I made it up the final hill, was running down the finishing chute and saw my husband, gave a high five and felt sweet relief to be across that line!
Huge thank you to @nicholasbentley324
And my littles for hanging out alllll day... it was a hot one! So happy to see my family at the end.
So fun seeing all my Zoot people out there and seeing my girl @carleen_tris
Rocking the course!
This was my biggest mental challenge yet and I did it.🥳🥳🥳
