Someone said to me recently, “you make it look SO easy,” in regards to being a single mom and running a business. Umm...it’s NOT. At all. It challenges me in so many ways every single day. Everyday I feel like I rock something and fall short at something else. But I keep trying to give my best.😊 It’s an ever exchanging “balance”. It’s an ongoing adjustment as he changes, my business changes, I change, life changes. But I wouldn’t change it for the world. THIS kind of “crazy” is what I wanted so badly so long ago. I worked all afternoon, rested for a few minutes, then picked him up at camp. And in typically mom life fashion— an overtired and hungry meltdown happened. I rushed home to make dinner, play, do bath time, bed time + to compose myself to run a team call. {My girl Jess dropped some FIRE and inspiration tonight of how she too, rocks this business as BUSY MAMA. More on that, later.🔥😍} Sometimes that’s the hardest part of it all— maintains focus on priorities + being emotionally agile + keeping my energy high {a constant focus since I’m still healing adrenal fatigue} + setting intention to SHOW UP as best I can, for whatever I need to do next. Breath, in the transitions. It’s so simple but it helps SO much. The key really is simplicity. I don’t have a lot of “FLUFF” in my life— because I don’t have time or energy to waste. Do any of us? So this is me— unfiltered, no makeup, messy hair, cabinets flung open, post workout, holding onto the boy who inspired me to GO all in years ago on my wellness and who also has been my biggest driver in building a business. The funny thing? I had NEVER wanted to be a stay at home mom before I had him.😂 Bottom line— I knew I could never give him the life he deserved, if I was always running on EMPTY. I began coaching for selfish reasons, for the ultimate accountability, to have incredible tools that taught me everything I didn’t know, and to help other mamas— learn to put themselves first, too. And the rest? Is history. I’m no different than you, so here’s the REAL non highlight reel. ✌🏻
Just finished book #8 (I think 😝) for this year! I have a goal of 12 so I’m doing good! 🙌🏽 I am sooooo grateful to have discovered and immersed myself in the personal development world! Getting a late start on this #closereadspodcast selection. This is the first time the book is a re-read for me, so that is a new way to come into the podcast. I recently got back into reading. My mom is an avid reader. I’m talking like multiple books a week... reading was always something I super enjoyed and saw my mom doing constantly. When I started having babies, I just didn’t have “time” and it was something I gave up. . . In this new season of my life, I’m making myself a priority, and I picked up reading again. OH MY GOODNESS! I forgot how much I loved it. I carve out special time both when I first wake up, and right before bed to curl up with my book. And I try to squeeze in a few minutes when the kids are napping. . . It’s important to have things in life you enjoy doing because it genuinely gives you a feeling of happiness. And I’ve learned in this season of life, reading is one of them. I sorta made a goal for myself (loosely) to read one book a week, and I’m excited to dig in to more titles. I’m REALLY enjoying this book by Rachel Hollis, and just ordered the other one today.
Guys. My house still doesn’t have a floor. 🙈 I’ve been trying to put these together while cooped up in a play room with my two Littles but as you can imagine it’s a little slow-going! 😬 These are 100% ready now, I just need to get them up in my shop! I’ll custom design it with your names and you can print them up to 36”x48” 😲 to show off your summer break reading! These are meant for your kiddos, but honestly I kinda want one for me. 😄❤️ #summerbreak #momhacks #summerbook #elementary #reading #readinggoals #girlmom #floral #engineeringprint #girlswhoread #raisingsmartgirls #reading #bookworm #homeschooling #momswhoread
Currently reading The Wicked Deep. So a little backstory, this book’s beautiful cover has been winking at me provocatively from the Young Adult Express Shelf for about a month now. 🌙 🌙🌙🌙🌙🌙🌙 It definitely has an eerie Hocus Pocus vibe to it, which I am finding impossible to resist. Literally having to tear myself away to carry on my “adulting” duties. Can’t wait to see how it ends and it makes me even more excited for @sheaernshaw ’s next book #winterwood coming out soon. . . “A dead body. A two-centuries long curse. A town that has accepted its fate.” 💀💀💀 #momswhoread #bibliophile #bookworm #bookstagram #bookstruggles #cantputitdown 📚 #yafiction #sheaernshaw #thewickeddeep
What My Kids Are Reading Wednesday 🌺 As a mom, I sometimes worry about my kids reading books about “bad things” in the world because then they might realize that...well, there are bad things in the world. Sigh. 🌺 But I realize that my job is to not only protect them, but to also educate them. And that sometimes means talking about horrible things that happen to good people. Because if I don’t, you certainly know those kids on the school bus will. 🌺 My niece read this book “I am Malala” (the young readers version) and recommended it to my daughter and though I was nervous about the subject matter, I knew that the book was beautifully written for this age group and it was an important book to read. 🌺 My daughter was incredibly intrigued and very much touched by the story. She had a lot of questions afterwards and especially wondered if I had heard about it when it happened and what my thoughts were. It opened up a whole new discussion that we might not have had otherwise...and I am grateful for that. 🌺 So I am trying to be less mama-bear and more brave by supporting all her book choices and remember that talking to her about hard things actually makes her a stronger person. 🌺 If you know of any other books with a similar message that are rewritten for young readers I would love any suggestions! 💕 . . . . . #iammalala #middleschool #middlegradebooks #nonfiction #nonfictionbooks #middleschoolreads #book #books #bookshark #booksparks #booksharks #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookinstagram #reading #readersofig #igreads #igbooks #ilovebooks #ilovereading #mom #momblogger #momswhoread #kidswhoread
Library pickup day!!!! I am a huge mood reader and lately I haven’t been reading all the books I bring home but 🤞🏻 I am super excited about this stack! ❤️📚🐛 #libraryhaul #librarybook #loveyourlibrary #book #bookstagram #booknerd #bookworm #booklover #bookaddict #read #reading #reader #momswhoread
When mama turns her back for a few seconds!!! 😳😳😳😳😳👀🤦🏽‍♀️ This child moves so fast! Lord Help me! Ethan wants to be everywhere Jaheim is and he is popping out the baby's playpen and stroller climbing in every chance he gets with his heavy weight! Smh I wonder how many of us are trying to force fit ourselves into places, people and things we have outgrown? #Foodforthought #RosiesMamaTales #Momlife #Mamaof4
June reads! #100bookstoreadin2019 - 1️⃣ The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd is our #bookclub #Junepick and definitely one for discussion! This book is based on a true story of real women making an impact on slavery and civil rights before the Civil War. - 2️⃣ Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate is based on a true story of the Tennessee Children's Home Society Orphanage in 1939 and the children that were taken from their homes. It left me hugging my children just a bit tighter. - 3️⃣ Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly was sad, and beautiful, and a book that left me thinking about it for days afterwards. Based on the true story of heroic women during WW2. If you love historical WW2 fiction you'll enjoy this! - 4️⃣ The Secret Mermaid Books 3 & 4 by Sue Mongredien are beginning chapter books Anna and I have been indulging in at bedtime together. I've been loving our read-aloud time and this series has been perfect for her age and imagination. (Let me know if you're interested in this one or other beginning readers perfect for summer!) :) - 5️⃣ The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson was highly recommended to me by a mentor of mine and several others. The book did not disappoint. I highlighted and wrote down several bullet points and left feeling rejuvenated and inspired to move forward in several areas I've been feeling burn out. - 7️⃣ Glimpses of Grace by Gloria Furman was given to me as a gift this past Christmas from my SIL and it’s exactly what my heart needed to hear this summer. Whether you are a stay-at-home mom or a working woman splitting time between the office and home, Gloria encourages us to see the reality of God's grace in all areas of our lives. - 8️⃣ Love and Lemons was a new cookbook I picked up last month and honestly every single recipe in here is delicious! I will share more as I try new recipes! - 9️⃣ Braving the Wilderness by Brene Brown is next on my list to read! This will be my first of hers to read. I gave this book to my leaders that joined my in Alaska! - What books are you reading this month?
Really disappointed with myself. Turned in The Silent Patient back to the library before I snapped a picture 🤦🏼‍♀️ • But anyway ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 • I love books like this that have a huge twist in the end. I never really like to try and guess it but rather just read and be surprised. I’m not sure why I don’t like trying to “solve the mystery”. I guess to me it takes away the relaxing aspect of reading. 😅 • If this is on your to-read list or not - READ 👏🏻 IT 👏🏻 it’s worth your time.
We only have a few more days until we begin our summer travels, and I’m scrambling to finish all my library books before I have to take them back. I don’t want to have to part with any of them without enjoying them first! • I started When I Was the Greatest this morning, and I’m already hooked. I planned to read more at the gym, but the parking lot was completely full so I didn’t even make it inside. So I’m hoping to have time to sneak in a few chapters this afternoon before the kids are up. • Have you read any of these? Which should I pick up next? • • • #amreading #summerreads #yalit #teenlit #summerreading #readmore #readersofinstagram #readersofig #raisingreaders #momswhoread #readingrecommendations #books #bookstagram #bookphotography #booklove #booklover #bookworm #booknerd #bookaddict #bookish #bookaholic #writingcommunity #writersofig #writersofinstagram #aspiringauthor #momlife #thesecretkeepers #jasonreynolds #wheniwasthegreatest #underapaintedsky
Happy Wednesday book lovelies📚 . . . This was a hard photo to finally take, I've been debating it for months and decided today was as good as any. I wanted to shed light on something that affects me daily, postpartum depression. I love my son with my whole heart, the last 9 months has shown me how much my heart can truly grow. But life is hard, that's the biggest reason I don't post regularly, or honestly start many of the other bookish outlets that I've been wanting to for awhile. . . . There are some days that I only want to lay around and do nothing. It is really easy to get in this dark space, and very difficult to get out of. I've been learning ideas to help my PPD get under control, and for the most part, it is, but there are dark days. And I'm hoping they decrease as I go forward. . . . If you are struggling with ppd shoot me a message, I'd love to be a support system for you, and you for me. Don't feel like you're in this fight alone. . . . Also I have ZERO books with naked white covers, like what? I didnt realize how rare it was when I started my stack.
I have 10 spots open for my Summer Survival group + new coach mentorship. Apply in my bio!✨ Years ago, there was a time where I was terrified to walk into a grocery store incase I’d bump into someone I knew and they’d say, “hey, how’s life?” because, quite frankly it was in shambles. A newly single mom. Beginning recovery from abuse. Beginning a new life. Jobless, scared shitless and living above my mom’s garage until I could “get on my feet”. Not exactly small talk, huh?😂 I wouldn’t change ANY part of our story. I wouldn’t be so grateful for where we are today if there was no contrast to compare it to. FEAR • let’s talk. The last many years I’ve done SO many things that scared the sh*t out of me as a means, to create a better life and become a better version of myself. There’s no way around it. Fear IS the path. I didn’t just wake up one day having gotten in the best shape of my life, having had massive personal growth, new ingrained habits, eons forward in healing, a fresh perspective, with a full time at home coaching business, freedom, an amazing team that’s my family, helping hundreds of women, new skills, incredible friends I met online, deeper connections, purpose, joy, having won an emotional custody battle, having traveled all over the country thanks to our opportunity. I didn’t just wake up one day and get to skip the unpretty parts of growth — the fear, doubt, consistency, grit, grind, the sacrifices, the discomfort, the patience, the rejection, the failures, the obstacles, the heartbreak, the missed goals, the shame, the rejection, the guilt, the highs, the lows— the messy human experiences. I’ve learned the most invaluable power in learning to lead myself. That’s a never ending journey.😂 Believing in ourselves is audacious, liberating, courageous. No matter if it’s big or small. It rips off the bandaids we protect ourselves with. For when we don’t believe we can, when we don’t heal what holds us back— we don’t have to TRY. We don’t have to get uncomfortable, dig deep. We can convince ourselves it wasn’t possible or we didn’t deserve it, anyways. We stay stuck far beneath our capability and capacity. If I can, so can you!
