Based on the 1991 film of the same name, when Captain Hook kidnaps his children, an adult Peter Pan must return to Neverland and reclaim his youthful spirit in order to challenge his old enemy.
"Hook" is loosely based on the sequel to "Peter Pan" titled "Peter and Wendy". I saw Hook when I was very young and found it rather boring. I tried to revisit it many times but never got around to it. From what I read it was kinda bad but interesting and I do like the books and Disney's version as well. As for as the game goes this was yet again my sister Christie's choice at our local Blockbuster Video.
I don't think Christie really understood the concept of Hook since I didn't really either. Yet the game art on the back of the box looked like other Disney licensed games even though it wasn't a Disney licensed game. When we got home to play the game she seemed to really enjoy it and played for hours and then I tried it out.
The game was decent but I lost interest in it rather quickly. I do remember the graphics looking great. Nearly 23 years later I revisited the game again for this review and again lost interest in the game. It's a rather slow platformer with great graphics and visuals. Gameplay is decent and it's on the easy side in terms of difficulty. Yet Peter moves kinda slow and the controls aren't that responsive which leads to getting hit or missed timed jumps.
I don't necessarily think the game is horrible or unplayable, it's just kinda boring. There are loads of other cartoon or Disney-ish games that I would rather play. Now let's see if I can squeeze in the film.
