It’s common to see people performing a barbell squatting with running shoes on, yet that’s probably the worst shoe to wear for squats. When we squat, we want a stable foot and solid base to maximise force transfer.⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A running shoe is designed to absorb the impact when your foot makes contact with the ground, so if you’re squatting in them is a bit like trying to squat whilst standing on a mattress. ⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⁣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A weightlifting shoe is perfect for squatting as it has a hard sole. 💥Read💥 So this morning wasn’t a great morning for myself. After having 5 days off training because I needed rest, I was feeling flat and a bit demotivated. I got up in good spirits to smash the gym. When I arrived I was feeling very tired and lethargic, and incredibly tight. After spending time trying to get some blood flowing, loosen up and motivate myself I started my lower body workout (I know who even trained legs at 6am😴). Safe to say it didn’t go well, I didn’t get the proper mind to muscle connection. I didn’t hit any of my targets of reps, sets or weight. It was definitely one of the worst workouts I have ever done, even thought for a moment why am I even bothering. But you know what I got up, I got to the gym. That’s a start, I realised one bad workout won’t make me lose my head. Chalk it down to a mistake that I should try and listen to my body more often! Tomorrow is another day and I’ll hit it then! My workout didn’t go well but the rest of my Wednesday will, I’m going to hit my macros right and have a positive day! It’s not all about every day being perfect, it’s about moving in the right direction little and often! We all have off days and bad moments, best thing is to try to learn from them. We are humans after all! Sometimes keeping a positive mindset is the hardest part but if we can do that you can progress into anything you want! Never give up! 💪🏻
