Steven & Emma of Raidis Estate is in town to introduce their wines from Coonawarra, Australia. A group of local wine enthusiasts had the opportunity to taste their wines over dinner yesterday. Playing host during the event was Christina Pretty of The B.I.G. Wine Company, the local distributor. The Raidis Estate winery is the latest addition to the list of wineries hailing from Coonawarra’s terra rossa soil. It is located near the southern edge of Coonawarra’s narrow strip. Influenced by maritime climate, the wines produced are cool climate in style. At present 6 grape varietals are grown here: Cab Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Sauvignon blanc, Riesling and Pinot gris. Emma highlighted that they are the first to produce Pinot gris wines in Coonawarra. During dinner we had the opportunity to taste the following of Raidis Estate wines: 2019 Cheeky Goat Pinot Gris, 2019 The Kid Riesling, 2016 Wild Goat Shiraz, 2016 Billy Cabernet Sauvignon and 2013 The Trip. Its nice to see wines veering towards elegance (as opposed to strength & power) coming from Australia; it certainly broadens what Australia can offer to wine consumers in terms of style and taste.
