And that the focus of therapy is meeting the needs that (inner)child missed out on.
A key part of the healing process is strengthening your healthy adult mode.
this buddy is the one we need in adulthood to behave appropriately. It helps us develop skills so we can work, bond, build lasting relationships, care for others but mostly care for ourselves.
I find it hard to listen to the healthy adult, to trust him/her because I can’t always see the bigger picture. Instead I will choose to give in to the impulsive child mode, the one that doesn’t help me on the long term, but gives a short and satisfying effect.
On the long term, we all know that listening to maladaptive modes isn’t a good idea. But we struggle with this sometimes.
Listening to the healthy adult makes us grow stronger, it helps us battle demons, make the right choices.
