Morticia aka Tish, Lady Tishingtons, Tishbobs, Tishkins, Poppinjay, Cherub, Beautiful, Tishpins, Grumbles. A Restorative yoga guru, always pads upstairs to practice with me, sweetest soul, chats with intention and intonation, sings for her supper, loves to be on you and with you, headbuts with abandon, loves kisses and cuddles. Happiest in company of her people, definitely NOT strangers. Supreme comfort in times of sadness. This is a beautiful portrait of her as she often doesn’t photograph well. Before she came to share her beneficence with us she had a bit of a tough life. She was living in a cemetery, cheek by jowl with the foxes. The story is that gravediggers were feeding her because she was so skinny - she certainly has a penchant for a cheese sandwich - and when one day they couldn’t find her, searched in the undergrowth and eventually discovered her hidden away with 3 tiny kittens. Celia Hammond Animal Trust rescued the little family and named them after the Adams Family: Morticia, Gomez, Pugsley and Wednesday. Pugsley and Wednesday, two black and white girl kittens found homes together and we took in Tish and tiny Gomez. Gomez was the most handsome ginger lion, who I miss madly, his gentle heart was damaged from birth and we lost him when he was 6. I remember the day we brought them home so clearly - welcoming scared Mother, and her ginger scamp into our home was magic. Caring for animals, sharing space with them is something I’ll always do - from childhood through adulthood I hold wonderful memories of the many animals, all individual personalities, who have passed through and coloured my life with theirs. Never trust anyone who says they don’t like animals! Seeing Tish, skinny and tired, with her baby (such a good mother) in a new place after a stressful time, finally realising she was safe and could relax a little was a privileged moment. Look at her now hale and hearty! And I know the Lady Tish is happy that her luck turned this way she found her right humans, I know she loves us as much as we do her. She lets us know.
