Barney ( Mixed Breed, age 7.5 years ) & Minnie ( Labrador Retriever age 6 )
I met these beautiful rescue dogs about 5 years ago when their family engaged me to initially visit and let them out of the house for toileting.
Unfortunately they were initially quite hostile to new comers and to other dogs. Over the years we have formed an amazing bond. ( If I were to run into them out on the waterfront. the amount of barking and squealing will turn heads, they just love me.) It was apparent that they had never been walked and so the family asked me to do what I could do to train them into calm and friendly dogs.
In my quest, I utilised several different harnesses without too much success. Then my research brought me to the Freedom No Pull Harness. I purchased two, they still wear them to this day. I was absolutely amazed at the results I got with the harnesses and that is why I began importing them and selling them. I am still absolutely amazed with the results. All because of Barney & Minnie.
So although we are very good friends, these guys have only ever stayed in their own home since they were brought home from their rescue organisation. With the help of family, they have been able to continue with this. I have in the past spent a night or two there to help out. Last week family were unavailable to help out and luckily we were in between bookings, so Barney & Minnie came for their first ever sleep over at ours.
They loved the yard and ran around quite contented. Indeed they slept well during the night, Minnie snoring away beside me in the guest room. It was only in the morning when I went out to visit another client, Pam stayed home with them but we realised they would be very anxious without me and of being left home alone. I was able to rearrange my jobs so I could take them back to theirs around 9 am and drop back after lunch to check on them. Mission accomplished.
Some years ago, I told the family that Barney had as much Labrador in him as I did. They had a DNA test done on him, we were all a bit surprised with the result - Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Border Collie, Border Terrier & Smooth Fox Terrier.
He will always be our black lab.
