Our Residency for Emerging Artists in Performance, REAP, seeks to give dance, theater, and music artists a safe space to present work at any point during their creative process.
This photo features one of our Summer 2019 REAP artists, Maddie Hopfield, in a beautiful moment of improvisational exploration.
Hopfield attended Bard College where she studied both Dance and Poetry. There, she developed a love for dancing rigorously and making work that explores character, text, costume, as well as movement in a more formal sense. Since moving to Philadelphia there have been many influences on her art-making practice: being a preschool teacher, performing site-specific works with the Leah Stein Dance Company, Lily Kind's ongoing Wolfthicket project, performing in Vince Johnson's wacky company Philly Kerplop, writing dance reviews for thINKingDANCE, and expanding her movement vocabulary into house, waacking, and hip hop. She has performed her own work as part of Urban Movement Arts' artist in residence program and Leah Stein's Studio Works.
Maddie will be in residence in collaboration with Kayla Bobalek, @sneaky.veg
Come see her work at The Art Studio next Saturday, August 31st!
