The kids and I visited my folks last weekend for a mini getaway at the farm. My mom treated us to a fancy breakfast at @mojoscoffeebar
and the boys are still begging to go back!
My middle son, Sam, ordered the most glorious homemade pop tart I’ve ever seen! It was a beautiful piece of food art, so cheerful and delicious. We all took turns sampling each others meals, and the pop tart was my favorite!
Anyways, yesterday my kids were hungry and bored, so I pulled out my #thebesthomemadekidssnacksontheplanet
recipe book by @momables
and asked them if they wanted to make home made pop tarts. I sent Abe (he’s four and loves berry picking) to the garden to fill a bucket of blackberries for the filling. Here’s how we made the filling:
+ 2 Cups Fresh Blackberries
+ 1/3 Cup Sugar
+ 1T Maple Syrup
- Summer in a saucepan for fifteen minutes and let it cool slightly. Purée the berries in a high speed blender until smooth. Chill before using.
These pop tarts were a family affair, with my oldest making the dough and everyone decorating chaotically. There’s a good chance I’ll be sweeping up sprinkles for months!
I tried making one of the batches gluten free by substituting oat flour. The crust really spread out and it wasn’t very pretty. You can see them in this picture.
What is your favorite pop tart recipe? This morning @mccullinandco
suggested sand hill plum and I thought it sounded wonderful!
