I made this Greek Yogurt Chicken and Roasted Broccoli the other night and it was bomb.
Tonight I ate Paella and an elephant ear at the fair.
I wish I'd remembered to take a pic at the fair 🤷♀️
I also wish that eating elephant ears made me feel good 😂 cause I'd eat one every day.

Some numbers I found on this topic where alarming. 👉 There is a clear and distinct correlation between child trauma and drug and alcohol addiction. The traumatic incidents that we experience in our childhood very easily can, and often do, wind up following us into maturity creating a variety of long-term mental health issues that may causes us to self-medicate through excessive drinking or drug abuse. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) report that more than a third of adolescents with a report of abuse or neglect will have a substance use disorder before they reach their 18th birthday.
🙏how do you feel about this?

I read this the other day and it hit me like a ton of bricks.⠀
The more we share our stories and get honest about our lives, the less power people have over us. When we are open and honest, and have nothing to hide, we're FREE.⠀
Is getting honest easy? Fuck no. Do we all need to do it over social media? Nope. Do we need to do it at some point in our lives? ABSOLUTELY.⠀
You don't have to tell your secrets to a room full of people to rid yourself of shame. Therapists, coaches, healers, BFF's. They're all in your life to help you and heal you.⠀
You can share your story through your art, journals, late night talks, writing a book, poetry, with your Soul Sisters. The point is to just start telling your story.⠀

The topic of self-care is something that comes up in some capacity - every single day. We believe this concept that sounds so simple really isn't, because we are not often taught what it means to care for ourselves. It is a practice though, and we work this muscle on the regular.
So we want to ask you - what do you do for self-care in your recovery that you didn't do before? Remember the key word here is SELF which means that yes, bubble baths AND boundaries can both be forms of self-care if the focus is on caring for YOU. <3 Lisa
P.S. SHE RECOVERS is currently practicing self-care and sacred pause at @Stowel
lakefarm with other like minded women at our SHE RECOVERS on the Farm Retreat. Which is full of nourishment, yoga, connection, sacred circle, and naps.

What type of clarity has sobriety given you?
How do you support a sober life? What I have learned: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. In the beginning, don't call it sobriety. There is so much pressure around that word. Don't say you are "giving up" alcohol either. Instead try, "I am not drinking today", "I am living without alcohol", "I am practicing a sober life". ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. Practice patience with yourself and others through deep breathing, counting to 10, and mantras. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Others might be triggered by your change and be worried about themselves and what this means to your relationship. They are scared. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Notice their fear in your breathing practice and practice letting it go. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. Collect supporters slowly. Tell a few people who you can go to for support. You do not need to tell your family or broadcast it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
speaking of support:
AA is only 1 way. There is evidence to suggest it's only effective for people who believe in it.
People are successfully sober without AA.
Other supports: *Online communities *Podcasts like @seltzersquad
*Books *Counselling services ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Treat this like a break up! You are breaking up with a long term relationship that has been there with you your whole life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You deserve support. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4. Find sober celebrities and role models. Lana del Ray talked about how alcohol was her first love and her early songs were love songs about it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That resonated with me. I like to listen to break up songs and dedicate them to alcohol. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5. Prioritize active stress release and self-care. Even if you don't like yourself. You need to find healthy things to do in your time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is where I really struggled. My first 30 days were all about collecting 30 days. After that, real life kicked in. I realized that alcohol was my go-to for self-care. I needed to go for walks but I was exhausted. I slept a lot. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You will be exhausted and probably gain weight in the beginning. This is because food is our #1
self-soothing technique. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Let yourself be what you need to be. I promise you, it gets better. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What works for you?
cabin views 😍😍😍 our weekend up north was great. we played games, hung out at the beach, went fishing, shopping, made s’mores, lit up a bunch of sparklers around the campfire and enjoyed some snuggles with the newest member of the family, a 6 week old baby boy 👶🏻
as the weekend came to an end, i thought to myself, i think i had more fun last year when i was drinking. this year was way more mellow. but i also really ENJOYED my trip this year. i actually relaxed and felt refreshed coming home. we laughed a lot, the weather was gorgeous, and the best part is i was able to hop in my car and drive to town whenever i wanted. i felt safe carrying the baby around. i didn’t have to worry about being too drunk or hungover to do anything. i was happily sober and content.
it made me realize that the purpose of this trip wasn’t to get shit-faced and have a crazy/fun time. it’s to relax. be outside. hang out with family. reset and come home feeling ready for the week ahead. so, yeah ... maybe it wasn’t “as fun” as last year, but it was a hell of a lot more enjoyable ❤️

On this day last year I was away with the fairies! A blissful alcohol-free holiday. Time to plan another.
Read that again. ☝🏼
What you allow is what will continue. You will be treated the way you demand. You will promote what you permit. You and only you have the power to change your circumstances. Know your needs and know your boundaries. Familiarize yourself with your goals and how you want to achieve those goals. Then say "no" to anything or anyone that stands in the way.
🌟THERE IS NO “RIGHT” WAY TO RECOVER🌟
And I’m case you needed to hear it, you have permission to explore a multitude of paths to get you there.
There are as many ways into recovery as there are people. We all go about it differently and that’s okay!
I was once told, over a year into my sobriety journey, that I wasn’t in recovery cause I wasn’t working the steps 🙄. AA is an amazing option to many. But it’s not the only one!
Other options include:
✨ online communities
✨ addiction counseling
If you’ve been trying different approaches and you haven’t found one that works, keep trying! You will find it! And be open to it not looking like what you imagined and to it being a patchwork of methods.
a few years ago was like a breath of fresh air because their approach is non-prescriptive, highly individual and non-judgmental.
The bottom line is your recovery journey is just that - yours! And the modes and methods you employ may look different than someone else linear journey and that’s just perfect. Find what works for you and let it revolve as you and your recovery journey do. Just keep going.
