Cambodia, days 3-8 - Koh Rong Sanloem
Initially I came M'Pai Bay on island Koh Rong Sanloem just for a couple of days to dive, but I liked it so much I extended it for a further 4 nights. M'Pai Bay is only a very small village (with a surprising amount of Brits owning businesses!), and I stayed in a beautifully basic wooden bungalow, right on the sea, facing west so I could see the sunsets.
Whilst there I did manage to get 4 dives in, but as this is wet season, the visibility got worse over the dives which was a shame. But it's all good practice for me! But I mainly used the time to relax, listen to the sounds of the waves, catch up on the life admin, and drink some beers! Did manage to do a little boat tour to other parts of the island, Saracen Bay and then walking across to Lazy Beach and back, bumping into @eustya_s
who I'd not seen since Laos. The boat ride back in the pouring rain was, erm, fun. Also took a jungle trail round the outskirts of the village which lead me to climb up and down boulders, cross streams, climb over fallen trees, all to find a little waterfall/rock pool thing. I did also get a big hug from a small boy from the very poor end of the village, that was heartbreaking.
There were also so many dogs here, it was like doggy (and cat) heaven - except it rained a lot. A LOT. I really enjoyed the wildlife and animals here, hermit crabs, frogs/toads (I never know the difference), other crabs and on my last night the big old gecko in my final photo keep me company in my bungalow.
Would like to see what this island has to offer in peak season, maybe one day. When I'm rich and can just go where I please!
