WANT TO SEE WHAT I DO? ♦️ Here is some video of working with a patient today with long term back issues (permissions obtained) related to flexing ♦️ Nice to get a look at what I do in clinic ♦️ We used some different ways of looking at flexing & picking up objects at different positions and speeds and leg orientations ♦️ 1, A good use for a foam roller : ) Starting off high and then graduating down it. Going from more to less knee bend increasing flexing at the back ♦️ 2, Placing roller on the floor, much more flexion. Again using knees to grade ♦️ 3, Ball rolls (this one was a bit scary). Rolling ball to different positions and with a bit of force ♦️ 4, Driving back into flexion. How much protein should you have? Studies suggest that 1.7g per kg of bodyweight i.e. if you weigh 65kg, you should aim for 110.5g of protein per a day. Studies that have used body composition will base the amount of protein needed on LEAN mass, this causes the number to be higher, nearer 2 - 2.5g per kg of bodyweight. Most of us will not have access to such info, so sticking with the 1.7g guideline is a safe bet. This info is based on trained young males, although the same may not be found for females, at present this is the best research we have for those resistance training. As a female weighing around 65kg I aim for 110g as a minimum daily. We are all different, so see what works best for you. Up your protein and see if it helps you be on your game in the gym! *PERONEAL TENDINOPATHY* The peroneals are a group of muscles in the lower leg which are mainly responsible for ankle eversion (turning the foot outwards) Overuse/chronic overload of the peroneals can lead to irritation of the peroneal tendons (tendinopathy) which can cause pain in the lateral portion of the ankle Foam Rolling/ball release can be used initially to help reduce muscular tension in the peroneals, thereby reducing excessive pulling on the attachments (clip 1) Eccentric loading can also be used to help lengthen and strengthen the peroneals (clip 2). 3 sets of 8-10 repetitions can be completed every other day As pain and strength improves via the eccentric loading, low level plyometric jumps can be implemented in the later stages (clip 3).
