"Wine is a drink that is made from a plant that grows in the ground." Or so reminded us @reveriechenin
Jacques de Klerk, one of the talented team of winemakers behind one of our favourite wineries, @radford_dale.
He was talking about their Thirst Gamay Noir - which, incidentally, is currently the only one of its kind of varietal in South Africa. "Raw and unrefined, it tastes of the ground. Not a natural wine but as close to hands off you can get," he says. "There is very little added to it, almost zero sulphur." What we love about this wine is that it's one of the more unusual flavours out there to pass your lips. And it's a 10.5% alcohol red, which makes it highly "klappable", as founder Alex Dale described, and pretty unheard of in SA.
We love their lighter, refreshing reds SO much that we had to put together a mixed case for you. You can't get it anywhere else and it's the best way to experience the Gamay, along with their deliciously juicy Thirst Cinsault (the varietal flavour of the month, in case you haven't heard) and the South African favourite, Pinotage by their other label, @WineryofGoodHope.
"Definitely a Pinotage you can drink a bottle of on your own," says the team at Radford Dale. Hells, invite 5 friends over and drink all 6! (You're sure to impress them with a varietal they've likely never heard of.) The special mixed case includes two bottles of each varietal for R819 and we deliver anywhere in SA. Now that's good wine.
