Today for Give Your Cat the World Week, we are celebrating harness training.
Calvin was a bottle fed foster kitten. Once they were old enough, they started going to adoption events during which we decided to put harness on them so they could leave the cage. After I adopted him, I kept up with the harness training so that he could go to work with me because unlike a dog, cats can jump cubicle walls.
In general, Calvin is a very lazy cat. His interests are limited to food, sleep, and now catexploring. He doesn’t self play and when I do play with him, he’s smart enough to realize the toy eventually comes back and there is 0 point in wasting energy chasing it. Harness training has allowed me to expand his world while also keeping him safe. It keeps both of us from becoming couch potatoes but I also believe it helps him quickly adjust to new experiences because we are constantly catexploring and trying new things whether it be dog parties, conventions or even airplanes. Having not flown with him before, I wasn’t sure how he would do with the amount of noise and people at the airport. Turns out, he was completely unbothered and just wanted to get out and explore!
