Starting last month I started having a “focus” for yoga class each month. For June, it was finding 90 degree arms in chataranga, and holding it for five seconds. I thought this would be good to help raise consciousness about form, and to also help build strength. I think it went well (feel free to comment if you were in class). :-D . I’m focusing on “shoulders” for each yoga class I teach in July. I thought this would be good because military service members’ shoulders take a beating from training, rucksacking, and wearing gear, in addition to lifting weights and working out. We all need to pay extra care to our shoulders as we age, particularly if we have an injury. . Some of the exercises/asanas I’ve been doing in class in July include: . - Cow Face Pose (Gomukhasana) without the legs crossed, using a towel or strap to stretch the shoulders deeper . - Eagle pose . - Threading the needle . - Forward bends with hands clasped behind - Variations of locust pose (with thumbs facing up for external rotation of the shoulders) . - Bridge pose with clasped hands underneath/rolling the shoulders under externally . - I’m not sure what you call this one (I learned it during my 200-hour yoga teacher training), but it’s a great external rotation stretch for shoulders. Sitting on the mat with knees bent, place both hands directly behind you, hand flat on the mat with arms straights. Keeping the hands and arms in this position, lift the butt up and move it forward, sitting back down until you feel it in your shoulders. Hold for about 60 seconds. This one always produces grunts and groans from class so I know it’s stretching the shoulders. ;-) (Picture 3) . Several class members have told me they’re glad we’re focusing on shoulders because they need it! Do you have a favorite shoulder stretch you’d add to this list? Как я открыла для себя йогу🧘🏼‍♀️ ⠀ Своё знакомство с йогой я начала в 2015 году. Тогда ещё йога воспринималась мной, как некая разминка, не более 🤦🏼‍♀️ И, естественно, когда не вкладываешь в это смысл, интерес угасает. Через несколько месяцев, забросив это дело, снова качала пресс 😆 ⠀ В сентябре 2018 я в буквальном смысле загорелась йогой🔥 Изучала асаны, пробовала повторить (что и сейчас делаю 😃), выстраивала некую свою практику. Благо, сейчас множество видео и фото, приложений и книг, нужно только взять эту информацию и использовать. ⠀ Многие окружающие меня люди знают, какой сильный интерес пробуждает во мне психология. Теперь йога делит с ней место. ⠀ Йога - это то, что вытаскивает меня из кровати в 5 утра. Это то, что делает мое тело гибче, сильнее, здоровее. Это то, от чего горят глаза 🤩 ⠀ Я искренне желаю каждому найти то, что по душе, будь это что угодно.
