๐Ÿ’š Jasdeep talks about the pressures that millennials face and how this impacts their mental health. . . "Anxiety can occur by exams, future uncertainty and the stress that comes from social media. I, unfortunately, can relate to all of the above. . . ๐Ÿ“ฑ "Social media today is not what it used to be few years ago. For example, Instagram is now full of unrealistic models and body builders. This is not to say Instagram is not a strong platform to pursue a career in but it is also a platform where our generation compare their lives to the ones who post their โ€œperfect pictureโ€ lives. I have felt like this several times and fear where this leads others to. . . "Future uncertainty is a scary feeling, I am sure everyone at some stage has felt lost and in need of direction and this includes myself. Comparison also links to this. I would end up comparing my life to other successful peopesโ€™s and this would break me. Comparison is a killer. It took me a while to realise that everyone achieves goals at their own pace. One person may get their dream car by 25 whilst another has to still save up for one. . . ๐Ÿ’ญ "Overthinking which I call a demon can overtake my mind and lead me to feeling like I am losing myself. It is hard to put this demon on a leash and control it. However, over the past few years I have learned how to manage it. . . ๐Ÿ’š "Things that have helped me are going to the gym and exercising, talking to my anxiety and panic and focusing on my interests and hobbies. . . ๐Ÿ“ข "I know that I am not the only one who deals with mental health challenges. I encourage you to face your fears and spread the awareness." ๐Ÿ’š Nidhi lost someone very close to her. This impacted both her mental health and her life. She wants to share with you, both what she has been through and what she has learnt about grief and mental health. . . "I struggled with depression after I faced the loss of a loved one in my life. I used to wake up with an empty feeling in me. It felt like life had no meaning. I could not get out of bed. The pain only increased with each small realisation โ€“ I would never get to see her, I would never get a call from her again, I can never share any news with her anymore. . . "When you face the loss of a loved one you are going to be in a long term relationship with grief and the pain will always be with you. . . "The healing process was slow. I was still holding myself back from a lot of opportunities because I didnโ€™t feel I deserved them. . . "I had to remind myself that my own life had a purpose and I could start renewing the goals and plans I had for myself. . . "One of the few things that helped was remembering to celebrate the life of my loved one. This included reading all our WhatsApp messages, cooking her favourite food and framing photos of the time we spent together. Revisiting old stories and pictures always helped." . . "What I can take back from this journey and what I think is most important to get through the grieving process is to remember that pain is inevitable and suffering is optional." . . ๐ŸŒ„Along with their work colleagues, Nidhi is about to embark on a challenging adventure where she will take part in a 12 hour trek in Norway, all for the goal of raising money for the Mental Health Foundation. ๐Ÿ“ข Itโ€™s time for the next prime minister to make mental health a priority! #PM4MH . ๐Ÿ“ข Join in, repost & tell the next prime minister that you want this too! . ๐Ÿ“– The Mental Health Policy Group has published a manifesto today which outlines five ways to do this. . ๐Ÿ’š By addressing these areas, the new Prime Minister will lead the way towards mental health equality and bring us closer to the ambition of a fair deal for mental health. We want them to: . ๐Ÿ”ธTake action to prevent mental illness. ๐Ÿ”นCreate a cross-government plan for mental health and establish a โ€˜mental health in all policiesโ€™ approach across government. ๐Ÿ”ธReform the Mental Health Act. ๐Ÿ”นEnsure everyone can access the right mental health support, in the right place, at the right time. ๐Ÿ”ธBuild a mental health workforce fit for the future. . ๐Ÿ“– Visit mentalhealth.org.uk/publications to read the full manifesto. . . โ˜Ž๏ธ Need support?@samaritanscharity are available on 116 123 (UK) for free, 24/7. ๐Ÿ’ญ One of the best question's we can ask ourselves is 'What advice would you give to your younger self?' Often. we are experts in our own mental health without realising. So, with taking time to reflect on this question we can reveal our own pearls of mental health wisdom. . ๐Ÿ’š Rachel talks to you in this blog about what she has learnt throughout her life, about her own mental health, and how to live a life true to her. . โœ”๏ธโ€Iโ€™m 29 now and in my short life my mental health has been hard to deal with. It has been unstable at times but is a lot better than it used to be. This is undoubtedly because of my improved awareness about whatโ€™s going on in my head, the causes of mental ill health, support from professionals, friends and colleagues, and self-management techniques." . ๐Ÿ’ฌ My advice to my turbulent younger self, all things considered, is this: . ๐Ÿ”นStop trying to be someone you are not ๐Ÿ”นLove and look after yourself . ๐Ÿ”นDo not react to things you cannot control and be more present . ๐Ÿ”นFind positivity in every day. Talk less negatively and react less ๐Ÿ”นDo what you want, not what others want. Stop caring what other people think ๐Ÿ”นDo something youโ€™re good at and donโ€™t give up . ๐Ÿ’š โ€The main thing is to remember to try to live your life authentically, true to your real self, without worrying about what others think and taking all the opportunities you can. This is how I try to live my life now Iโ€™m older." Rachel . ๐Ÿ‘ค Mental health is personal to each individual and whatever your reflection finds try and take a compassionate approach to self-improvement. . . ๐Ÿ’กWhen thinking of self-improvement, find things that work for you, irrespective of what others are doing, and ask for support if you need it. . . โ˜Ž๏ธ Need support?@samaritanscharity are available on 116 123 (UK) for free, 24/7. ๐Ÿ’š The green ribbon is the international symbol for #MentalHealthAwareness . Show colleagues, loved ones or simply those you walk past that you care about their mental health. It can also be worn in memory of a loved one. . . ๐Ÿ’ฌ Thank you for telling us why you wear the green ribbon pin: . . ๐Ÿ’š "To put mental health out in the open not to hide away." . . ๐Ÿ’š "As someone who has suffered from mental health problems since my teens and who has lost people because of it I feel it's important to do everything I can to raise awareness and help break stigmas in today's society" . . ๐Ÿ“ข Your support and stories fuel our life-changing work. ๐Ÿ’š Monday mental health tips: Take a break ๐ŸŒณ A change of scene or a change of pace is good for your mental health. . ๐Ÿ•›It could be a five-minute pause from cleaning your kitchen, a half-hour lunch break at work, or a weekend exploring somewhere new. A few minutes can be enough to de-stress you. Give yourself some โ€˜me timeโ€™. . ๐ŸƒTaking a break may mean being very active. It may mean not doing very much at all. Take a deep breathโ€ฆ and relax. Try yoga or meditation, or just putting your feet up. ๐Ÿ› . ๐Ÿ‘‚Listen to your body. If youโ€™re really tired, give yourself time to sleep. Without good sleep, our mental health suffers and our concentration goes downhill. Sometimes the world can wait ๐Ÿ˜ด. . . ๐Ÿ’ป For more tips visit mentalhealth.org.uk/publications and read our 'How to look after your mental health' guide for free. . . โ˜Ž๏ธ Need support? @samaritanscharity are available on 116 123 (UK) for free, 24/7. ๐Ÿ“ข Spoken word artist Priscila Hernandez @growwithher wants to talk to you about why she is passionate about supporting a movement for good mental health for all. . . ๐Ÿ’ฌ "Supporting the movement for good mental health is important to me. Raising awareness means bringing to light the normality of mental health issues, and finding ways to resolve them collectively. . . ๐Ÿ’š "The more spaces available to open up conversations, the more likely we are to break the stigma in our communities. In doing so, there will be endless opportunities for individuals to heal, educate each other and share stories. . . ๐ŸŽค "In aligning mental health with music and creativity, MHF live is creating a platform that gives space to the real, raw, authenticity of mental health and creating change that is invaluable." . . ๐ŸŽธ MHF Live is the Mental Health Foundation's new music fundraising initiative that aims to raise awareness, raise money and raise the roof for mental health.
